Here's our Missouri Dauntless 14!

She’s in line, awaiting the attention of our mechanic.

He’ll check her over, making sure all the important stuff is doing what it’s supposed to do!

This is a one owner, freshwater Whaler from the midwest!

If you scroll down to our August 19th post, you’ll see a little more detail.

Quick takeaway - One, senior owner, never been near saltwater, never been near kids, never been near a bucket of anti-fouling bottom paint…

Fun fact - Missouri and Tennessee, who share a border, are in a long standing tie for “most bordering states”  - eight each.

I don’t see either pulling ahead in this contest anytime soon.

She’s as nice as one could expect a 1999 Whaler to be & she’s 18k with trailer.

Look for a detailed walk-around video soon & give us a call if you’d like to discuss.

There goes Steve from Pathfinders Express -he’s heading to Friendship, Maine, with an eleven footer in tow -finally!

We’ve had several delays on this delivery , mostly weather related - Hurricane Lee, Tropical Storm Ophelia, unrelated heavy rains in New England, and various other non-named nuisances…

You know, the greatest story teller of our time, the late Jimmy Buffet wrote a song called "Trying to reason with hurricane season”.

Bottom line -there’s not much you can do about some stuff..

So anyway, this little 110 Tender will be happily tethered to a mooring buoy soon.

From there, Steve heads up to the Hamptons to pick up a Boston Whaler 150 Super Sport…

There’s always more to follow...

Be safe, watch the weather, and be nice to people.

    150 Super Sport!

We have THREE 150 Super Sports! - You can see them all in our inventory!

We don’t do bottom paint, but The Oyster Landing Marina does…

Y’all know from most of York County Marine’s previous posts -we really prefer our Whalers with factory clean bottoms!

While I’m no fan of bottom paint, I do recognize the need for it.

This little Boston Whaler 110 Tender’s a good example….

She was purchased by Barry in Friendship, Maine, he’ll be keeping her on a mooring buoy and rowing her back and forth to his larger boat.

That’s about 100 yards each way - or a football field, not bad for a guy in his 70s!

Speaking of 70s, the rowboat Barry’s replacing is a ’70 something classic 13’ Whaler that’s retained more water than a ripe melon.

So, anyway - to avoid barnacles and other marine growth, she’s gotta be painted, and Barry likes red.

Oyster Landing is great to work with, they’re a small, mom and pop marina and boat yard in Seaford, VA, they do bottom paint, fiber glass work, as well as mechanical.

They sell Suzuki and Tohatsu outboards, Hog Island Skiffs -and the best local oysters available! - Check them out on Facebook!

As soon as “Lee” clears New England, we’ll have Barry’s 110 on the road!

Be nice to people & have a great weekend!

Jeff's '65 Boston Whaler Nauset
             @
the Reedville
Fishermen's Museum...

We took a few hours on Saturday to visit Reedville, VA, and check out their annual Antique & Classic Boat Show, a fundraiser put on by the Reedville Fishermen’s Museum.

It’s a neat little nautical museum with a super friendly staff, full of interesting history and artifacts of the Chesapeake Bay and the town of Reedville.

If you like boats, or fishing or history, it’s worth the drive!

-And it was cool to see one of our boats in the show!

Pictured here is Jeff and his 1965 Boston Whaler Nauset  -he purchased her from York County Marine last year, and took her to the next level!

When we originally posted photos and a brief write-up on this boat back in September of 2022, she quickly garnered more “likes” and feedback than any previous York County Marine Facebook post!

At the time she was powered by a Johnson 85 hp two stroke which had been installed by the original owner way back in 1970.

While the motor was near flawless, and Jeff loved the classic look, he realized that modern technology and reliability was more important.

We’re often contacted by folks that want a classic Whaler, but don’t want the 30, 40, or in this case 52 year old motor that’s bolted to the transom.

While YCM doesn’t sell outboards, we have relationships with dealers that do, and we’re always happy to help facilitate re-powers for our clients.

After discussing options, Jeff went with the new Yamaha F70 seen in the photo  - it’s the lightest 70 hp motor available, and the perfect choice for the classic 16/17’ Whaler hull!

The old Johnson, by the way, was given to a classic outboard enthusiast and collector in New Jersey -so everyone was happy!

If you look close, you’ll see a second Nauset in the background, that one belongs to Jeff’s lifelong buddy Lew  -who turned Jeff onto our Whaler, and helped him with the restoration process  - he’s also re-powered with a 70 Yamaha!

Back to Reedville -it’s a peaceful, quiet, waterfront town on Virginia’s Northern Neck -the northernmost of Virginia’s three peninsulas stretching out to the Chesapeake Bay.

It has that nostalgic, small town Main Street feel, with plenty of southern charm, fascinating history, and a slightly fishy aroma to the air!

Reedville was built around the Menhaden fishing industry in the late 1800s, their history is steeped with stories of the boat builders and watermen of the Chesapeake Bay.

Want to know more? - visit the nice folks at the Fishermen’s Museum!

  • Fun Fact - At some point around the turn of the last century, thanks to the Menhaden fishing industry, the little town of 500 was the wealthiest in the nation on a per-capita basis!

** Advice - If you’re coming from the Middle Peninsula, and want to exercise your fear of bridges (that’s called Gephyrophobia, I googled it), take the Route 3 White Stone / Norris Bridge.

If you don’t, cross the Rappahannock pretty much anywhere else.

You may recall the below post from several weeks ago.

We're excited about this one!

In the YCM Pipeline   -We hope…

2022 Boston Whaler 160 Super Sport!

If we’re able to cement the deal with our buddy Paul, she’ll be the 3rd boat he’s sold us!

Paul likes dealing with YCM because we make the process so easy, we like to buy from Paul because he takes great care of his stuff!

She’ll also be fourth 160 Super Sport YCM has had this year - and the nicest!

Paul reached out to us this morning, he’s in that downsizing age bracket and moving inland.

He bought her last year, and just had the 100 hour service competed.

The boat is garage kept and near, if not PERFECT!

As in - ‘has never spent the night outside’ kind of perfect!

She’s finished in Boston Whaler’s beautiful Light Blue with the Chrome Graphics Package.

In fact, to keep her perfect, she recently received a Ceramic Coating detail from Marine Max! - You could probably shave in the glossy reflection!

Other factory upgrades include…

-90 HP Mercury Four Stroke - Super Quiet, Super Efficient, and Super Fast - and with Extended Warranties!

-Factory Powder Coated White Tow Bar - perfect for towing skiers, wake boarders, or kids on the tube!

-Factory Split Front Wraparound Bow Rail - We love this option!

The open front allows for easy boarding  from the bow, easy anchoring, and fishing too!

-High Quality Factory Bimini Top in Black.

-Galvanized Trailer with Folding Tongue to help her fit in your garage!

-I’m sure I don’t even have to mention that there is No Bottom Paint!

If you’re not familiar with the 160 Super Sport, we have posted a handful of write ups in our Facebook feed and website over the past couple of years -if you scroll down, you’ll find ‘em!

In a nutshell - the 160 replaced both the 150 and the 170 Super Sports in 2019. They have amazing ride quality, and are perfect for all-around water sports and inland fishing.

The transom is comprised of dual integrated swim platforms that make getting in and out of the water a breeze.

The hull planes effortlessly, the handling is precise and predictable, and she’ll top out around 40 MPH with the 90, a little less with the standard 75.

Simply put, this is the best Super Sport ever produced.

We don’t have a price yet, and she won’t be cheap -but if you want this boat, give us a call as soon as possible -but not before 10am and not after 7pm EST!

This morning, as we put a bow on the Summer of ’23, it was nice to find this brief email from Steve in Waterboro, Maine…

"Just wanted to drop you a note to tell you we are thrilled with our GLS13. Everything about her is just about perfect. She did great towing the duck for our granddaughter and friends. And an awesome fishing platform. I didn’t expect the chair for the trolling motor. Just perfect!"

There goes a 150 Montauk - she’s heading for York, Pennsylvania!

This is Joe’s first boat, we started discussing the pros and cons of various models with him nearly four months ago.

In the end he liked the 150 Montauk’s center console configuration, offering the ability to stand or sit at the helm, combined with the overall compact, easy to handle size.

- I think he made a great choice!

Joe plans to be trailering his new Montauk quite a bit, so we’ve got her perched atop a brand new Magic Tilt aluminum trailer!

From long ago lost titles, to tire blowouts, to burnt bearings, to rusty springs and axles  -old trailers are often our nemesis  -if there’s a more comforting feeling than that of a brand new trailer under one’s beloved boat at highway speeds, I can tell you -I am unaware of it.

We picked up Magic Tilt over the summer because they build quality trailers designed specifically for the 130 Super Sport, 150 Super Sport, 150 Montauk, and 170 Montauk - and because I’m tired of messing with crappy, old trailers!

On the way back, Pathfinders Express will be bringing us that Bahama Blue 130 Sport referenced in a recent post!

Hope y’all had a great Labor Day Weekend!

What’s two feet look like?

Here’s a 130 Super Sport & 150 Super Sport side by side…

130 Super Sport (2009-2018)

Length 13’3”

Beam: 5’8”

Dry Weight: 640 lbs

Maximum Number Of Passengers 4

Max HP 40

Draft 7”

15 Super Sport (2009-2018)

Length 15’4”

Beam 6’6”

Dry Weight 900 lbs

Maximum # of Passengers 6

Max HP - 60

Draft 7”

Here’s what York County Marine’s Super Sport inventory looks like…

2017 130 SS

2022 130 SS

2011 150 SS

2016 150 SS

2017 150 SS (arriving soon)

For simplicities sake, we’ll break the 13’s down into five versions.

The first two - Pre-Smirked hull 1958-1970, Smirked from 1971-2000. The “smirk” referring to a smirking appearance created by the chines as they wrapped around the front of the boat.

These are the “classic” 13 hulls, of which there were many interior options that denoted the various models.

They started around 320 pounds, were fun and fast, with a rather unforgiving ride - great if you’re a teenager, if over 40, take your Advil in advance.

The classics do not have a “0” following the 13.

In 2000 the classic 13 was replaced by the all new 13 Sport, a 580 pound hull with better ride quality, with no more wood interiors and a max horsepower rating of 30.

In 2001 the same hull was renamed “130 Sport”, and the hp rating magically changed to 40. The 130 Sport ran until 2008.

The first 130 Super Sport arrived in 2009, a completely new modern design, departing from Boston Whaler’s traditional “straight” lines. While the weight stayed about the same, great strides were made in ride quality. This hull ran until 2018, and is the one pictured.

For some, this was Whaler’s best all around 13 footer.

The current 130 Super Sport hull arrived in 2019, another keel-up completely redesigned boat. This one’s 695 pounds, rides great, has integrated swim platforms, dry storage, and distinctive new look.

We’ve got one with 8 total hours, take a look at our online inventory at the top of the page if interested.

The first Boston Whaler 150 Sport arrived in 2003, right out of the box -this boat was a winner.

Ride quality, performance and versatility were much improved over the smaller 130.

The 150 hull weighs about 900 lbs, which didn’t change with the introduction of the 150 Super Sport in 2009.

The 150 Super Sport is one of our all time favorites, this boat has outstanding ride quality!

Like the 130 Super Sport introduced in the same year, the all new hull was a departure from traditional lines, which amongst other things, allowed for higher sides, and a safer feel.

This is the 15’ side console of choice for anyone seeking a dry, comfortable ride, stable platform, predictable handling and excellent self bailing capabilities.

The 150 SS was replaced in 2019 with the introduction of the all new 160 Super Sport, which also replaced the 170 Super Sport.

That’s a lot, all I planed to do was show a side by side picture of the 130 and 150..

Have great day folks, and be nice to people.

Hey, I know that Whaler!

130 Super Sport towing a 26’ Shamrock past our dock this morning.

YCM sold that little Whaler to guy named Bubba last year - he’s definitely the type to give up his day for someone in need.  👍🏼

As for the Shamrock, better days ahead, it happens to us all! 🙂

She's here!

In the YCM Pipeline!

2000 Boston Whaler 130 Sport in “Bahama Blue”!

We don’t bring in many boats under 10k, for lots of good reasons, all of which were learned through experience!

This one will be an exception to the rule -stand by for pricing.

This little 130 has been here before, she was part of YCM’s inventory about 4 years ago.

We sold her to Jay, an older fella in Pennsylvania  -so he could go fishing with his dad.

It was pretty cool, his father was 90 at the time.  Together they towed that 13 footer everywhere from Pennsylvania to Florida several times, caught lots of fish, and formed lots a great memories.

She’s powered by the original Mercury 30 hp two stroke, with oil injection.  Jay kept her well maintained and she runs great.

He also added the bimini top along the way.

Several years ago we had her professionally painted at Coastal Fiberglass in Chesapeake, replaced the rub rail, added the custom steering wheel, etc.

Jay, who’s moved on to other hobbies, asked us to buy her back and find her a good home.

So the plan’s to pick her up next week, run her through service, and find her a good home!  -There are more memories to be made!

She’ll include a galvanized trailer and be priced soon.

Not a Boston Whaler, but (formerly) David’s Eastern, now Lew’s Eastern.

Pathfinder’s Express will deliver this one about an hour down the road in Virginia Beach, then pick up a couple of Whalers down in Chesapeake - including that 150 Super Sport we posted last week.

Lew’s one of those rare, pleasant and positive, guys that you know you could be friends with from the very first conversation.

He’s also a Whaler guy, and this Eastern is going to look pretty cool next to his recently restored Nauset!

She’s an all composite New England built boat with classic down easter lines, modern four stroke technology, and she’s easy to trailer.

I originally bought her to be my personal “old man boat” -she’s quiet, reliable and stable, not real fast, but fuel efficient, has a huge bimini top, just the right size, look, etc -but at this point, I don’t have the time to enjoy her, probably have too many boats -and I know she’s going to a good home!

Lew found us on the web a while back, he also turned his best buddy Jeff onto our website, who ended up buying a gorgeous 1965 Nauset from us last year.

If measuring by Facebook “likes” and comments, Jeff’s Nauset holds the YCM record for all time most popular boat!

Both Nausets were re-powered with new 70 hp Yamahas -just like the Eastern’s.

We were going to deliver the Eastern last week, but Lew’s family and Jeff’s family, along with the twin Nausets were vacationing together on Lake Gaston down in North Carolina -I saw on the water pics, it was pretty darn cool!

Not unlike launching a Classic Boston Whaler, with the Eastern, Lew can anticipate lots of compliments, questions and conversations every time he gets in line at the local ramp.

I’ll probably miss this one!

Super Sports!

Update - They've arrived!

In the YCM Pipeline   - we think…

Gorgeous 2018 Boston Whaler 130 Super Sport w/very low hours!

We sold this one back in 2021 to a gentleman in West Palm Beach Florida - at that time she had only 17 hours.

His family has grown (grand kids), and he’s trading her back in for a Whaler w/a little more space.

Factory Options Include

-Wraparound Bow Rail

-Bimini Top

-High Back Bench Bucket Seats

-Windshield

-Bow Cushion

-Swim Lader

-Mercury 40 Horsepower Four Stroke w/Control Thrust

And No Bottom Paint!

This is a very nice 130SS!

In The YCM Pipeline!

In The YCM Pipeline!

Perhaps the Nicest Boston Whaler Dauntless 14 in existence!

She’s a one owner 1999, from the freshwater lakes of Missouri - she’s never been in, seen, or even smelled saltwater.

We bought her from Bill. He and his wife are retired, enjoying lake life, and considering the slower pace of one of those rectangular, couch carrying pontoons.

She’s equipped with the original, low hour, Mercury 60 hp two stroke, which looks as new as the boat!

As we’re discussing the Dauntless’ overall condition, Bill informs me  that “this boat has never even had a kid on it!”

Which I take to mean she’s in great shape, has never been abused, and boogers should not be of concern.

This Whaler has definitely lived a charmed life, never run hard by teenage boys, tasked with towing skiers, bottom painted, or left in the water, in fact, she’s kept inside at the neighborhood storage facility - seen there in the background!

Bill bought her new in 2000 from No. 9 Marina in Eufaula, Oklahoma.

If you’ve been following YCM over the last few years, reading all the longwinded boat descriptions, you’ll recall this isn’t the first Whaler we’ve brought in with the same origins.

The last was a beautiful Blue Dot Newport just a year or so ago.

No. 9 Marina is on Lake Eufaula, and named for the highway running east to west through the lakefront town, which incidentally wasn’t a lakefront town until the Eufaula Dam was built (’56-’64) by the Army Corp of Engineers, forming one of the world’s largest man-made lakes, creating drinking water, hydro-electric power, a source of recreational boating and fishing for the surrounding communities, and spawning an otherwise non-existent tourist industry.

  - Information scoured from various internet sources because this seller of fine boats finds that sort of stuff interesting…

Somewhere along the way, No. 9 Marina apparently changed to simply 9 Marina - which, for what it’s worth, I find less cool then No. 9.

Anyway, they were a Boston Whaler dealer in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s and oddly enough, sold quite a few Whalers in the middle of Oklahoma.

In fact, Bill told us they had three of these Dauntless 14s on the showroom floor to choose from - and this is not a real common boat!

They’ve got an active Facebook page if you want to check them out, looks like a fun place, but more pontoonish than Whaler these days.

So, back to the Dauntless, even though Bill's not a fisherman, she has Boston Whaler’s factory Fishing Package.

This primarily means the bow is kept open to not encumber fish-ability, with no bow rails, even the bow light is removable.

During production and prior to the installation of the top cap, the hull of these Whalers with the Fishing Package is factory rigged for a trolling motor. There’s an easy access plug-in panel in the bow.

This one’s never had a trolling motor mounted - so no holes drilled.

There’s also a removable cooler seat in front of the console.

Other factory options include -

-Bimini Top - this is our #1 requested option, and they are pretty expensive.

Side bar - we have an account with both William J Mills Canvas and Great Lakes Boat Top.  Mills was the original and only supplier of OEM tops and covers for Boston Whaler’s first 4 decades, Great Lakes was given the contract shortly after Brunswick purchased Boston Whaler in 1996.

We’re not really interested in selling bimini tops and boat covers to the general public, but we do offer them at our cost when a Whaler is purchased.

-Side Rails - these will give you something to hold onto and help you move around the boat safely!

-Stainless Swim Ladder - this will help you get back in the boat!

The Dauntless 14 was first offered in 1999, alongside the Dauntless 16 and already available Dauntless 18.

The 14 and 16 were designed as high end replacements for the discontinued and somewhat half-baked 13 and 15 Dauntless, two models that were repurposed from the Rage 13 and 15 jet boat hulls.

These three even numbered Dauntlesses were expensive even by Boston Whaler standards.

They were high quality builds, sharing many of the same components.  All three have the same proprietary model fiberglass reversible pilots seat, the 14 and 16 shared the same full size standup console, beefy stainless hardware, etc.

The 14 was the first of the smaller Whalers to have an integrated fuel tank, an upgrade the 17’ Montauk wouldn’t receive until 2019! Twenty-five gallons by the way!

Other high end, big boat standards include a tilt steering wheel, concealed below deck rigging, self bailing cockpit with scuppers, high sides, bilge well with pump, storage, etc.

Boston Whaler had high hopes for the 14, almost a ‘build it and they will come’ sort of mindset, but with retail pricing similar to that of the 17 Montauk, most buyers opted for the larger 16.

The yacht owners and sailboaters used to buying Boston Whaler tenders may have loved the boat, but the 1000 lb hull (before motor) was just too heavy for most davit systems to handle.

The result - this beautiful, overbuilt, expensive 14 foot center console didn’t make the 2001 brochure.

At the helm of a 14 Dauntless, the overall feel is that of a much larger boat.  The handling characteristics are that of a larger boat as well, the deep v follows all the way through to the stern, making this a very capable compact center console.

She’ll come with a custom full boat cover, as well as matching console and pilot’s seat cover, original owners manuals, etc.

More pics, info, and pricing to follow.

2011 Boston Whaler 150 Super Sport!

We’re bringing this one back into the fold - we sold her two years ago to a really nice local couple who just haven’t had time for boating. In fact, they took her out once, tucked her back in the garage, life happened, and that was it.

She had only 114 hours when leaving YCM in 2021, so it’s safe to assume when we plug her in, the computer will read under 120.

The 150 Super Sport is one of our all time favorites.

This hull came out in 2009 and ran until 2018.

The 150 has exceptional ride quality, simply refusing to spray her passengers or beat them up.

If you’re looking for a small side console boat that’s easy to tow, launch, and fits in the garage -and won't damage L1 through L5 whenever encountering small ripples on the water - you can leave the anvil at home, you’ve found your boat.

This is the best riding 15’ side console Boston Whaler ever produced.

Other great attributes are -

-Fantastic self-bailing capabilities - we seldomly put a plug in a 150 SS.

-Higher sides - makes for a safer, easier boat to move around in.

-Interior stainless handrails - these are standard equipment and great for everyone to hold onto.

-Rotomolded cooler seat - high quality and clever design, removable, locks into multiple positions, creates needed storage.

Ours is powered by a super reliable, super efficient, super quiet Mercury 60 horsepower fuel injected four stroke with stainless steel prop. She’s quick and can pull a skier or the grandkids on a tube.

Factory options include -

-Bimini Top

-Bucket Bench Seat

-Bow Rails

-Swim Ladder

-Karavan Trailer with folding tongue

This one is bottom painted, so if you need to leave her in the water, the hard part is done!

We’ll have this one here soon, update the pics and get her priced.

Three Whalers bound for New England!

First on, last off, and heading to Ipswich, Massachusetts is a super nice 52 year old Boston Whaler Sourpuss 13!

She’s powered by a 1977 electric start 35 horsepower Johnson, which our mechanic has running like a Swiss timepiece -or at least as close as a 46 year old smokey two stroke can get to a Swiss time piece!

Dave’s the new owner, and this is his second classic YCM Whaler! Last year, we sent him a beautiful 1984 Newport 17.

We’re counting on some pics of both together on the water very soon!

In the middle - a super clean, one owner 1994 GLS 13!

This one’s powered by the original Mercury 25 horsepower two stroke -also running fantastic!

While the 25 would be a bit light for the speed demons, she jumps right up on step and is a lot of fun!

She’ll be delivered to Steve in Waterboro, Maine.

The granddaughter is visiting from out of state - lots of pressure to get this one up there on time!

Last on, and first off is a 1999 Montauk 17.

This one’s heading to Jay in Ludlow, Vermont. She’s powered by the original Yamaha 70, which - after a little carb work and a new set of plugs - is also running like a two stroke Swiss made wrist watch.

Brief horsepower sidebar - Throughout the 70s, 80s, and 90s the Montauk was most commonly rigged with either a 70 or 90 hp motor. The max is 100. We had one last year with a 50, and it performed surprisingly well!

Anyway, horsepower debates on classic Boston Whalers are as common and contentious as Chevy guys telling Ford guys that their truck sucks and vice-versa.

These classic Whaler hulls are light, efficient, plane easily with smaller horsepower motors, and will handle better with less weight on the transom.

Despite what all the horsepower junkies will argue - the 70 always was and remains today a great choice for the classic Montauk - and you know what? I also like pineapple on my pizza.

Anyway, Jay’s getting a really nice Montauk, she ran 36 mph during sea trials last week in less than stellar conditions!

A big thanks to Luke at Coastal Transport and Hauling for getting ‘em all loaded up and making people happy!

There's Raiford and his two YCM Project Montauks!

Raiford and his Kubota were a big help unloading those Whalers today in the pouring rain!

He's a cool guy -flys commercial jets for a living, fixes up old Whalers for a hobby, tells good stories.

This won't be the last time we send the truck...

There go two more Whalers from the YCM Project list!

Steve from Pathfinders Express is out west on a two week family vacation, so Luke from Coastal Transport and Hauling has stepped up to the plate!

He tows with a very cool mid ‘90s two toned Dodge Ram 3500 dually with a Cummins diesel, and an old school manual transmission -and that 50’ car trailer can easily move a couple of YCM Whalers at the same time!

Luke’s transporting these two classic Montauks to a fella named Raiford, a lifelong Whaler guy down in Charleston, South Carolina. He’ll give them the attention they deserve.

Unlike our regular inventory, the project boats all need work of some kind before hitting the water.

Our original intention was to fix them up, get them running and find them good homes -now it’s just to find them good homes.

Our project boats are always posted at the bottom of our normal inventory list -and we’re clearing them out!

While we still love Steve, we want thank our buddy Luke for keeping the boats moving!

The aluminum rocket launcher rods holders were added along the way.

Scout 172 Dorado

Screenshot 2023-09-13 at 9.57.41 PM.jpeg

Scout 172 Dorado - some of the prettiest lines in boating!

She's a 17' Compact Dual Console / Bow Rider.  These make great all around easy to tow family fish and ski boats.

This one's a project for sure.

She's got a soft floor, the motor (90 Yamaha two stroke) is untested and the trailer has some corrosion issues.  - But @ $2,500 it's the least expensive boat we've listed in many years!

We've got all the cushions and even a full cover!

If you want an "as is" project give us a call.

This one's Heading to Houston...

This one’s heading to Houston, Texas, she’s a ’99 Boston Whaler Dauntless 14 with a 2010 Mercury four stroke.

Steve from Pathfinders Express is towing her down there with the little Toyota while the transmission and AC are being repaired in the big truck.

He’ll be in Houston on Saturday where the temps will hit 100 degrees!

The Dauntless 14 is a high quality compact center console built to the same standards as the larger Dauntless 16,18 and 22.

The 14 footers weigh in at 1000 lbs dry (without the motor), they have an internal 25 gallon fuel tank, a large stand up center console, the same reversible pilot seat as the larger dauntless models, self bailing scuppers, etc, etc. This is a big 14 footer, at the helm it feels like a much larger boat!

The 14 was intended to be a fun, high quality runabout, and a high-end yacht tender -but the high price tag (well over 15k back then!) ran off the small boat buyer, and the weight was often too much for the average moderately sized yacht’s davit system to handle. After two years Whaler pulled the plug.

We love the Dauntless 14, they don’t show up on the market often, and we’ll scoop them up whenever possible! Check out the other 14 in our inventory with the new Yamaha 70!

Brian's the new owner of this one, he was willing to take on a little bit of a fixer upper, as long as we had her running well. I think we’re sending him a pretty cool boat!

It’s Trailer Day @ YCM!

-And that’s our new friend Devin, from Magic Tilt   -she’s a superstar!

We recently signed up to be a Magic Tilt dealer, and today Devin brought us our first stack!

We chose Magic Tilt because they have a series of quality trailers specifically designed for certain Boston Whaler models.

We have quite a few Boston Whaler 130s, 150s and 170s pass though York County Marine, these are wider boats, on most trailers they tend to sit high and awkwardly above the fenders.

The higher the boat sits on a trailer, the harder it is to launch and retrieve, and the more water you need at the ramp.

With Magic Tilt trailers, these Whalers will be nestled in lower between the fenders - a perfect fit. Easier at the ramp, plus a lower center of gravity is always better for towing!

We brought in a half dozen to get the ball rolling - two for 130 Sports and Super Sports, two for 150 Sports, Super Sports and Montauks, and two for 170 Super Sports and Montauks.

Magic Tilt builds quality trailers in Clearwater Florida, they’re family owned and operated, and they’ve been around since 1952.  For more info check out they’re Facebook page or website.

While York County Marine doesn’t intend to be the next big seller of boat trailers, we do often need boat trailers!

Some boats don’t come with trailers at all,  some have trailers that are no longer road worthy -so we always need trailers!

We’re also excited to offer our clients a new trailer option at our wholesale cost when purchasing a boat.

Trailering is stressful - there’s no greater piece of mind than having a new, safe and reliable trailer under your boat!

So, what’s up with the name?  Do they tilt or something?

Nope, but back in the day they did.

Tilting boat trailers were popular in the 1950s and 60s prior to all the infrastructure and concrete boat ramps we have today.

The tilting action made it easier to launch and retrieve on shorter, often uneven makeshift ramps.

Most had a simple lever to flip, or pin to pull allowing the trailer to hinge.

-Along with fewer ramps, I suspect there were fewer lawyers back then as well.

Continental is the only U.S. company that I’m aware of to still offer a line of tilting boat trailers.

Anyway, these Magic Tilts really look great!

The 13s are galvanized, the 15s and 17s are aluminum, all were upgraded to torsion axles - all come with a very cool York County Marine decal!

We’re hoping to see Devin again with another load soon!

Happy Trailer Day!

In the YCM Pipeline!

1994 Boston Whaler GLS 13!

That’s Steve from Pathfinder’s Express bringing us another

one-owner Whaler!

This one’s coming from the freshwater lakes of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, about 20 miles east of Nashville.

Based on the roofline in the background, I’d say our buddy Steve stayed at an old school Howard Johnson last night!

This will be a fun one, 1994 was the first year of the newly redesigned and more modern GLS.

The all fiberglass interior has a more modern look and is more comfortable than the previous GLS, with a taller console, higher benches, and integrated backrests.

GLS refers to “glass,” as in all fiberglass interior  - for most of us, by the time the 90’s rolled around Boston Whaler’s mahogany interiors of the late 1950’s had well since run their course!

Unlike the previous GLS (’89-’93), this is not a one-piece molded interior, in fact, the front bench has thumb screws, allowing for quick release and removal.  Want more space?  Unscrew and leave it on the dock!

Even the color is different, while Whaler still called it “Desert Tan,” it had more of a reddish, almost rose tint.

In ’94 all spotlights at Boston Whaler were on the new 13 and 15 Dauntless models, as well as the 13 and 15 Rage jet boats  -four Whalers which we tend to avoid here at York County Marine.

While we don’t know numbers, I really don’t think many of these mid to late ’90’s GLS 13s and 15s were produced, they certainly don’t show up on the used market as often as the previous models.

Ours has the original freshwater Mercury 25 horsepower two stroke - while we’ll have that motor running like a top, a new super quiet, super reliable, and super efficient Suzuki 30 horsepower four stroke sure would be a sweet upgrade!  - We don’t sell outboards, but we can help tee it up!

Like many of our boats, this one belonged to an older fella, he bought her new, caught lots of fish, and eventually left her to his family.   She’ll be here soon, we’ll take more pics, have more info to discuss, and get a price tag on her too!

BTW, we’ve got an identical ’94 GLS 15 here at YCM - we’ll be sure to take some cool side by sides!

Check out these spark plugs

 See the black overspray?

Mercury paints their powerheads in the factory with the plugs installed, which keeps all that black shiny paint on the outside of the motor, as apposed to the inside!

Remember that beautiful ’94 Boston Whaler GLS 15 we picked up from an old timer in Illinois a few weeks ago?

The boat’s perfect, and appeared to be emerging from a time capsule rather than a barn! - The one that’s not for sale.

Anyway, we popped the cowl over the weekend to do a little pre-start prep -that’s when we noticed she’s still sporting her first set of spark plugs!

While I certainly don’t condone going 29 years without a plug change -and in any other case I’d be a bit concerned, but in this particular case, I don’t think the boat ever got passed her 10 hour break-in period!

The plugs actually look pretty darn good, but I think we’ll change them out, along with the oil in the injection tank!

She gets a brand new Wm. J Mill’s bimini top and matching cover soon, then her first taste of Chesapeake Bay saltwater!

We’ve got a couple of Classic 15s available, but you can’t have this one.

YCM a different kind of boat dealer

In the YCM Pipeline

1983 Boston Whaler 15 Sport Center Console!

Produced between 1982 and 1988, these are one of the coolest versions of one of the coolest classic Whalers!

Often referred to as the “Mini Montauk”

The molded fiberglass console was borrowed from the 17 foot Montauk, with just a few inches timed from the bottom.

So not to have cables crossing the floor, they actually changed the hull to include a rigging tunnel, just like the larger Montauk!

The stainless side rails wrap around the mahogany bench seat’s backrest in a style borrowed from the 1970s Boston Whaler Sour Puss 13.

Just like today’s center console models, a removable cooler provides seating forward of the console.

When released the CC was Whaler’s most expensive version of the classic 15, they’re both sought after and a pretty rare find -especially with no bottom paint!

- The Super Sport Limited which came out in 1987 as the CC was nearing the end of it's production run became the most expensive of the 15s, only to be trumped in '89 by unpractical, short lived and rarely spotted duckbilled Boston Whaler Mischief!

Ours currently has the original 1983 Mercury 50 hp two stroke, but we’re talking with our Suzuki dealer friends and considering four stroke re-power options -a new 60 hp Suzuki would be pretty sweet!

We’ll have much more info and actual pics and pricing soon, so stay tuned - or just give us a call with questions!

2016 Eastern 18 Sportsman!

2016 Eastern 18 Sportsman

If you work in a toy store and you like toys, you’ll likely windup with a lot of toys…

I love unique boats!  -This is one of my personal boats, and I absolutely love it, but it’s time for us to do a little downsizing.

She’s a 2016 Eastern 18’ Sportsman Center Console.

Eastern, located in Milton, New Hampshire is a builder of high quality Downeast style boats.

They got their start in the early 1980s, primarily building boats for New England lobsterman and sportsman.  If you’re not familiar, check out their website!

Eastern boats are built to order, there’s always a considerable wait, and very few show up on the used market.

Our 18 footer is a 100% composite build, meaning NO WOOD construction.

She’s gorgeous and always turns heads.

Power is supplied by one of my favorite outboards - the Yamaha 70 horsepower fuel injected four stroke.

These motors are incredibly efficient, quite and reliable, while weighing 100 lbs less than any competing 70 hp four stroke on the market.

Options include a huge, high quality bimini top with stainless steel frame, bow cushions, stainless steel removable swim ladder, stainless steel prop, full cover, and galvanized trailer.

She has just under 280 total hours since new.

This boat, motor and trailer are all exceptional - there is not one hole drilled in this boat that was not done by the Eastern factory.

She’ll be brokered through York County Marine.

York County Marine will always consider Boston Whaler Trade-ins.

York County Marine is a 100% on line operation, all of our boats are professionally delivered, anywhere in the Untied States with international shipping possible.

According the United States Coast Guard

July 4th weekend is the deadliest boating weekend of the year.

Boating Under the Influence is the single greatest contributing factor in boating deaths.

4th of July weekend is statistically the most dangerous BUI weekend of the year.

Independence Day is also the #1 deadliest for America's roadways.

Please don't gamble with other people's lives - don't drink and drive on land or water.

We wish you all a safe and fun 4th of July

Looking for a Boston Whaler project?

AVAILABLE! PROJECT - 1988 Boston Whaler Outrage 20

Perhaps the best deal we currently have going - Rare and sought after boat, the Outrage 20 was an exact, but shortened version of the super beefy and offshore capable larger Outrage 22, essentially splitting the difference between the Outrage 18 and 22.

The perfect compromise - bigger and better ride with considerably more space and storage than the 18, easier to tow and handle than the larger 22.

Whaler produced the Outrage 20 from 1985-1988, and should not be confused with the less desirable V20 Outrage, which did not offer the same ride quality or interior space and storage!

Motor has not been run in several years, and we're selling her as a non-running project.

FYI - York County Marine has a close relationship with our local Suzuki dealer and can help facilitate a fresh re-power on any of our Whalers!

Galvanized Trailer included, $12k.

Please call if interested between 10am and 7pm EST 757-329-9979

There goes our Maritime Skiff 1480 -heading to Atlanta, Georgia!

Tony’s the new owner, and he’s getting a heck of a nice little skiff!

If you missed out on this one, we have a pretty cool, older 16’ Maritime that we’ll be pulling up to the front sometime soon.

Steve from Pathfinders Express is making the run on this busy, hot and smokey holiday weekend -with a broken air condition and the windows rolled down!
If you pass him on South I95, smile and wave - but keep those windows rolled up, it’s hot and smoky out there!

We’re counting on Tony and family to send us some happy boating pics soon!

Y’all have a safe and happy holiday weekend!

So... we bought this 1968 Boston Whaler 13' Standard (tiller model) maybe two years ago, then we re-powered her with a BRAND NEW ELECTRIC START SUZUKI 20 HP FOUR STROKE!

Then I bought her from the company to use as my personal skiff - after all, we're both '68 modes.

However...

A - I don't have time to use her (hence the ridiculously low hours).

B- I'm running out of space for boats.

C- My wife's starting to ask questions.

I  love the little boat, she has the characteristic gel-coat crazing and imperfections of a 55 year old Whaler, and of course the classic blue interior - she's just a fun,  sweet heart of a skiff!

She's all original, never been bottom painted, and she grew up on a freshwater lake in a small town in Western North Carolina.

If you search back far enough on the website,  you'll find our original write up on this little gem.

The Suzuki Fuel Injected Four Stroke has less than 10 hours (still in break-in period) and is still under factory warranty. - Push the button and she starts right up like a new car!

She's $8,500 - call before I find a place to hide her.

Here’s a few more pics of our
1988 Boston Whaler 15 Super Sport Limited

Exceptional Find!

IMG_0881.JPG

We brought her in from Minnesota a few weeks ago, she was senior owned, freshwater, and gorgeous.

She’s powered by a 2018 Fuel Injected, Four Stroke Mercury 60 with only 74 total hours!

The Super Sport Limited has a one piece drop-in fiberglass interior comprised of dual consoles, dual windshields, and two full length benches with comfortable backrests and storage.

There is also a large, removable hatch or hood that covers the rear section of interior. It’s finished in the same non-skid texture as the decks, and is hinged to the back of the rear bench. This hood gives a clean look, concealing the fuel tank and battery, while creating additional storage.

Also note the stainless steel ski bar - the Super Sport Limited was intended to be an all around family water-sports Whaler.

The cushion package on the Limited makes for a much more comfortable ride as well!

The SSL option was offered in the Classic 15 hull from 1986-1989. The 13 and 17 also had the Limited option, in fact the 13 and 15 LTD interiors are interchangeable.

At the time, new Whaler buyers could expect to drop an additional $2,500 on the Limited version of the Classic 15 - that was a lot bigger number back then!

The Classic 15’ is - in this writer, boater, and enthusiast’s opinion - the most fun hull Whaler ever produced - it’s light, it’s fast, it’s a blast!

The Classic 15 offers a far superior ride when compared with any smaller Whaler - they just don’t beat you up like the 13!

This boat is an exceptional find, the perfect mix of rare Classic Whaler and new, reliable four stroke technology.

She has never been in saltwater, has never been bottom painted and was stored inside.

She’s offered at $20k with trailer and custom fit mooring cover.

Give us a call if you’re interested between 10am and 7pm EST. 757-329-9979.

After delivering a YCM boat to Naperville, Illinois, the Pathfinders Express crew traveled two hours south to the small, rural town of Edwardsville, just a few miles from where the Great Mississippi River divides Illinois from neighboring Missouri, arriving just in time to bear witness to a rarely seen Boston Whaler 15 Sport GLS at the very moment she emerged from her time capsule…

One senior owner, freshwater, barn kept, every bit original, etc, blah, blah, etc  - but sorry folks, it looks like York County Marine will be keeping this one…

Here's the walk-around video of our super rare Classic 13'
Sour Puss!

There Goes Pathfinders Express Again

They're not all Whalers - you may remember our writeup on this 14' Alumacraft way back in January.

Richard in Naperville, Illinois just bought her. He’s excited to get back into boating with a simple, light and easy to launch skiff.

The boat’s an '02, the motor's a ’93 and the trailer’s a ’82.

As the story goes, an old timer bought the Evinrude new and put it away, then years later bought the boat, new as well -but he never put either in the water.

So that means Richard will have to take it easy on this 30 year old motor for the first 10 hours as he breaks her in!

We serviced the motor, and we did launch the boat -  this one felt more like launching kayak, or maybe floating an empty beer can off of a small trailer, retrieving was just as effortless.  It was a windy day on the York River, and there is a penalty to pay a penalty for that lack of weight!

Tiller's are fun, like being a kid in your first boat,  which in my case was aluminum.

She was great on the creek, but felt a little bit like that empty beer can on the open waters.

The old Evinrude started on the first pull and didn't skip a beat, while the two stoke smells provided additional childhood memories.

She’ll arrive in Naperville in a day or so.

When the trailer returns to York County Marine she’ll be delivering a one owner, garage kept, freshwater 15 Sport GLS, which I think may be my Father’s Day present from Blitz.

There goes Pathfinders Express leaving York County Marine with another Whaler!

This one’s a 170 Montauk, always our most in-demand Whaler.

There’s a slip waiting for her in Annapolis, Maryland!

Steve from Pathfinders will back her down the ramp, from there the new, excited, patient, pleasant (and all other descriptive adjectives that could be used when discussing a super nice person) owner takes over!

We send quite a few Boston Whalers to Annapolis -nearly all 17 and under, which coincidentally is the largest allowed at the famous “Dinghy Docks” downtown.

If you’re on our delivery list, hang in there, we’re catching up and we’ll be there soon!

a few hours latter...

We have a couple of Boston Whaler 110 Tenders available - affectionally referred to as "The Bathtub" - note the glossy white finish & deep sides .

This little beauty is a 2011, and she’s pretty much perfect.

The 110 Tender is a workhorse, designed to ferry people and goods back and forth from the big boat to shore.

It’s an excellent alternative to the typical high maintenance inflatables often used by sailors and larger boat owners.

The 110 is the best purpose-driven dinghy Whaler ever made, the stout 424 pounder is much heavier and more stable than the classic 11, and a far better choice than the wiggly little classic 9 footer.

The decks are almost completely flat, and the sides are high, allowing for more usable space and easier/safer moving about.

The all-fiberglass interior is low maintenance, hose it off and go.

The big, wide fiberglass benches are finished with a non-skid, no slip pattern, and cushions are available.

There’s an anchor/storage locker in the bow just like that of the bigger Whalers.

The self bailing cockpit means - no bilge pump needed, just pull the plug.

Prefer rowing? The low profile stainless steel handrails have built in oarlocks!

The appeal of the 110 is not only as a tender, but also as a fun and stable platform for fishing and exploring the lakes and shorelines.

Grandparents love them!  High sides, stable, simple, can't sink - perfect for the grandkids!

They fit in any garage, can be towed by anything with a trailer hitch, and would look great on your jet ski lift.

So, speaking of “pull the plug”, that’s exactly what Boston Whaler did to the little 110 in 2021, walking away from the under 13’ market.

While disappointing, small boats just don’t make a lot of money, and the 13 foot Whaler has always posted much larger numbers. Considering that Boston Whaler sells every single boat they can produce, it makes sense to steer resources to the larger hulls.

If you don’t want an inflatable dinghy, or if you simply want a smaller Whaler, you're going to have to shop the used market, and these little 11s are getting scooped up fast by the big boat guys.

We’ve got two to choose from with or without power, trailers, bimini tops, etc. So, give us a call if interested.

Whenever anyone buys a YCM Whaler we always ask for “fun pics on the water”, but they don’t get past the cutting room floor unless everyone onboard is sporting a life vest.

Exceptions are occasionally made for dogs, cats, ducks and actual mermaids.

Here we see two very happy Labs aboard Jennifer’s YCM 130 Sport!

Boston Whaler 150 Super Sport!

Our 2016 Boston Whaler 150 Super Sport has finally arrived from the freshwater lakes of central Texas!

She’s a one owner boat, we bought her from a retired airline pilot.

That’s 3 things right there that I really like!

1- One owner - original owners generally care about and take better care of their stuff then the subsequent owners. There are fewer drivers, less damage, consistency in care and maintenance - and they know the history, and they keep records and owners manuals, etc, etc. The same bears true for just about anything from cars to bicycles, boats, tractors, etc.

2- Retired - I like buying boats from older folks. Just like original owners, they tend to take better care of their stuff.

They're not pulling wake boards all day, getting airborne or running wide-open all the time. In short, older folks aren’t hard on their Stuff!

Their engine hours are generally much lower, and at much lower RPM ranges.

Older folks understand the importance of maintenance and are more likely to spend the money to have it done, or they’re capable of doing it themselves.

They also don’t cut holes all over the boat for speakers that can change color on demand.

We plugged this one in - she has a total of 135 hours, 36 of which were in the 800-1499 RPM range (that’s idling or trolling) and a total of 1 hour at or above 5000 RPM. She’s had an easy life!

3- Pilot - Just like original owners, and just like older folks, pilots take good care of their stuff - and they’re really big on maintenance!

So, this one’s the trifecta!

The all new 150 Super Sport first arrived in 2009, replacing the 150 Sport with a more modern look, more significant deadrise, higher sides, and a clever interior.

In Boston Whaler’s decades of building 15’ side console hulls, this one offers the best ride quality.

These boats are fast, fun, stable, easy on the body and they refuse to get you wet.

They are much roomier than the 130, yet still fit in the garage.

The Mercury 60 hp Four Stroke has plenty of power to pull a skier or grandkids on the tube, while being fuel efficient, quiet and reliable.

If you lose the drain plug, don’t worry about - they have amazing self bailing capabilities. In fact, we never use a drain plug in a 150 SS.

As for specs - she’s 15’4” long, with a 6’6” beam. The dry (no motor) weight is 900 lbs, and she drafts only 7” of water, and is USCG rated for up to 6 people.

In 2019 Boston Whaler replaced both the 150 Super Sport and the 170 Super Sport with the all new 160 Super Sport.

The 160 is a fantastic boat, but more closely related to the larger 170, leaving a big hole in the line up -but anytime a manufacturer can consolidate two items into one, without losing sales it makes sense at the top.

Our 150 Super Sport was used primarily on freshwater lakes, and is offered @ 26k with Galvanized Trailer.

She has the Factory Bimini Top, Swim Ladder, Dash Appliqué, and the Optional Extended Range 19 Gallon Fuel Tank and Stainless Steel Prop.

The folding high back seats are aftermarket and add to the overall comfort, if you don’t care for them, they can be easily removed.

The trailer has a folding tongue to help her fit in your garage and there’s No Bottom Paint!

We expect this one to sell pretty quick, so give us a call if you’d like to discuss.

This one’s heading to St Mary’s Georgia, just north of the Florida line.

Kevin bought her from our project list.

That’s the Pathfinder’s Express team loading her on the YCM tilt bed!

You may have heard of Kevin, he’s the guy that made the ICW run from mile marker 0 in Norfolk, VA to Edgewater Fla (where the Whaler plant is) some 1,050 miles in a Boston Whaler 17 Alert (essentially a 17 Sport) back in the late 90s!

He’s a Whaler guy through and through and he’s had dozens over the years.

This one will be set up for Kevin and his wife to explore the St Marry’s River and the Intracoastal Waterway which intersect near their home. I’m sure he’ll occasionally poke out into the Atlantic on nice days as well!

She’s a project, and he wants her nice, so first stop is the fiberglass shop for a little restoration work, then to the Yamaha dealer where they’ll mate her up with a 70 hp four stroke - the perfect match!

The “GLS” stands for glass, as this model replaces the traditional mahogany bench seats and console with a low maintenance one piece molded fiberglass interior. Boston Whaler offered a GLS model for the classic 13,15 and 17’ hulls beginning in 1989.

Kevin also had us order a Wm. J Mills mooring cover to help keep her nice once the restoration is complete.

Mills was the sole OEM canvas supplier to Boston Whaler for the first 40 years, and they have templates for all the classic Whalers and some post classics as well.

We offer Mills bimini top and cover upgrades at our cost to clients purchasing a Whaler from YCM.

We also have an account with Great Lakes Boat Tops, the current OEM supplier of all things canvas to Boston Whaler.

Neither is inexpensive, but both offer top shelf quality and a custom fit.

So whether your trying to keep the UVs off your head or your boat, we’ve got you covered.

Kevin’s been a pleasure to work with, he’s got lots of good stories and has done some pretty cool stuff, no doubt we’ll stay in touch.

He’s excited about this GLS, and I’m sure he’ll send us pics to post along the way.

If you’re interested in a Whaler project, keep an eye on the project section of our inventory, we’ve got quite a few and we need to thin the heard!

Steve from Pathfinder’s Express sent us this photo earlier today, just after dropping off Jennifer’s new to her 130 Sport in Burlington,  Connecticut.

Steve’s a better boat delivery guy than photographer, and he usually forgets to take pictures entirely despite my constant reminding and harassing.

This one though, this one is different, at least the subject matter is.

It occurred to me that this driveway subtly says “Americana” like none I’ve seen in quite a while.

From tomato plants to Tonka trucks, the little girls pink tricycle, a Jeep Wrangler, American flag pinwheels -and now a Boston Whaler.   I love it…

Steve took a pretty good picture, and it looks like Jennifer has a pretty good life!

Another Whaler from the YCM Project List

     and

   a brief  SCIENCE DISCUSSION

-and an even briefer discussion on preventative maintenance

1999 Boston Whaler 16 Ventura!

Built on the same hull as the Dauntless 16 Center Console, but with a more family friendly Dual Console interior.

We picked this one up about two years ago, in the thick of covid. She was a running boat at the time, albeit a bit rougher than described with lots of random gelcoat crazing, and a lower unit that had witnessed the fascinating effects of galvanic corrosion first hand.

She’s a great start for anyone looking for a quality Boston Whaler Dual Console and willing to take on a project.

10k buys her -boat, motor and trailer.

*What the heck is galvanic corrosion?

Well, it’s the accelerated corrosion or breakdown of a metal that occurs when two connected dissimilar or different metals are exposed to an electrolyte (such as saltwater).

Electrolytes are conductors of electricity, and when combined with dissimilar metals, a DC current is formed, like a battery.

The negative (pun intended) results are that one of the two metals corrodes at an accelerated pace -in this case our lower unit.

On the positive side (yep, another pun) the other metal is protected from corrosion beyond its normal stand-alone ability -most likely our stainless steel prop.

So, what should have been done? The sacrificial anodes should have been checked and replaced on a regular basis, and if you’re leaving your boat in the water -keep the darn motor trimmed up!

**Ok then, what’s a sacrificial anode?

It’s an additional third dissimilar metal added to the unintended electrical circuit -usually zinc, which is quicker to give-up it’s ions (there’s a chart for this stuff -and please keep in mind, about a hundred years ago I pursued a business degree, and not a science degree for good reason).

Anyway, had one been added/maintained our lower unit would have lost its role as the anode and would still be intact today.

Anyway, if you want the boat, give us a call!

Lot's of stuff going on these days @ YCM!

This Dauntless 17 left a few days ago for White Stone, about an hour up the road in Virginia’s Norther Neck -and just on the other side of that bridge...

You may recall we discussed the White Stone Bridge in one of our boat delivery posts a while back -built 69 years ago, two miles long, two lanes arching 110 feet above the Rappahannock River, 45 MPH, plenty of big trucks, white knuckles, etc. Oh yeah, and it kind of shakes a bit too.

Anyway, Brian and his family are super excited about their new Whaler, and we’re counting on some fun boating pics on the Rappahannock!

If anyone else out there is looking for 17 Dauntless, we’ve got another one here waiting her turn in the service lane!

Pretty Cool Text from Brian two days later!

Bermuda Bound!

There’s our 160 Super Sport all wrapped up and ready for a new and exciting life!

Pathfinder’s Express dropped her off yesterday afternoon on the docks at Port Elizabeth, New Jersey.

On June 2nd she sets sail for Hamilton, Bermuda aboard the 390 foot MV Oleander.

If you’ve been following YCM over the past year or so you’ve watched us ship a few of our Boston Whalers to Bermuda, all of which have been aboard the Oleander.

We had fun last year discussing the ships tracking system (AIS), which is used internationally for tracking every ship and passenger vessel (300 gross tons+/ or 150+ passengers) currently underway or at anchor -and watching as our little Whaler safely crossed the Atlantic on marinetrafic.com.

You can find that post on February 15th, 2022.

The Oleander was custom built for Bermuda Container Lines in 2019, she’s a combination container and Ro/Ro (roll on roll off) ship capable of transporting 456 TEU as well as 113 cars (or boats) stored internally.

What’s a TEU? It stands for Twenty Foot Equivalent Unit. Nearly everything is shipped in standardized containers, most are 20’ or 40’. A ship or marine terminal’s TEU is the number of 20’ containers it is capable of handling at one time.

If you’re not familiar with containerized cargo, they’re the boxes you see on the ship in the background of our photo - in just a few words (something I’m not known for -note Sunday’s longwinded post about a found lifejacket…) these containers revolutionized the way nearly every consumable is shipped around the world - from ship to truck, to warehouse, store, etc.

Our Boston Whaler 160 Super Sport however will be boarded as RoRo, and moved or rolled around the ship on it’s own trailer.

The Oleander is loaded with cargo from around the world in New Jersey’s Port Elizabeth terminals, departing every Friday, and arriving in Bermuda on Sunday. She’s unloaded and turned back around, providing the fastest and most efficient shipping from the United States to the Island.

The international stuff is fun, but hectic! Thank you to everyone who helped make this one successful!

Check out this super cool classic Stearns red and black plaid life jacket!

We found it stowed in a boat the other day -and it’s in amazing, nearly new condition!

Not only is this stylish, it has a stainless steel clasp on the strap and an actual metal zipper. Someone picked this out in a sporting goods store a long time ago with the intention of being safe on the water, while still looking sharp - not always an easy mix!

We often talk about the stuff left behind in the boats we buy, sometimes really cool, but mostly trash - from rusty fish hooks, outdated flares, a lifetime supply of sunscreen, various forms of birth control, tools (some good, some rusty), quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies, articles of moldy clothing, lots of yesterday’s “as seen on tv” stuff, tons of life jackets, lots of flashlights, some water skis, paddles, tow ropes, the occasional CB radio, disposable rain ponchos, fish measuring devices, monofilament line, and keys to nothing - but this - this is a pretty sweet life jacket.

So, all personal flotation devices (PFDs) sold in the United States have a Coast Guard label with info about the type of PFD, size, weight limits, and amongst other things, a lot number. It’s there for quality control, so the Coast Guard can dial in any issues to the batch.

Based on the lot number we contacted Stearns, now owned by Coleman to request a manufacture date - turns out our vest was made in the 4th quarter of 1976 - so apparently about the time Ford was leaving and Carter was coming in, plaid was big amongst sportsman.

Come to think if it - literally, just now - my dad had a red plaid Coleman thermos that looked a lot like this vest. That thermos full of coffee along with Dad’s camera bag were standard equipment on the family Grady White back in the 70s and 80s.

Folks have been wearing flotation devices in one form or another for a long time, in-fact evidence suggests the first PFDs were actually inflated animal skins and bladders used over 3000 years ago to keep invading Assyrian armies laden down with heavy weaponry afloat as they traversed the moats of their enemies.

In the 1800s folks began experimenting with bulky designs, mostly made of cork or balsa wood filled canvas. These were stiff, uncomfortable, and not always a safe alternative.

It’s hard enough to get folks to wear the modern comfortable vests of today, imagine trying to get your passengers to don a bulky sack of cork, or worse a pig batter!

It wasn’t until the Motor Boat Act of 1910 that life preservers (along with lights, whistles, and fire-extinguishers) were mandated by the federal government.

This ushered in a new generation of more comfortable life preservers with buoyancy coming from a light, fluffy cotton-like tropical seed called Kapok.

These are the vests you’d see the men of WWII wearing on the decks of war ships and storming the beaches of Europe.

For most Americans, the first real exposure to life jackets came during World War II.

Generally the men on the decks of ships and landing on beaches wore these Kapok filled vests, while the aviators wore a new, more compact inflatable rubber coated vest affectionally referred to as the “Mae West.”

These would inflate with the pull of a string, which engaged two liquid carbon dioxide tanks, converting the contents to gas, much like today’s more modern CO2 powered inflatable vests.

Ms. West, by the way, was an ample bosomed film and Broadway star, comedian, playwright, sex symbol and activist whose work spanned 70 years and whose namesake life vests saved thousands of servicemen.

Kapok was phased out in the 1980s as it naturally loses buoyancy over time and can actually absorb water - so check your PFD stash and toss out the old stuff!

Most life jackets of today are made of multiple thin layers of foam sheets. It’s inexpensive to produce and can’t absorb water.

We buy a lot of boats, and most come with a few life jackets - literally hundreds of life jackets make their way through York County Marine every year.

Some are newer and usable. We’ll occasionally include them with boats, or donate them, but most are older, and like everything else stowed on a boat, a bit mildewy. We often cut them open and use the thin foam sheets for protective padding when shipping boats.

While these vests may get you past a Coast Guard inspection, I’d really prefer you pick out life vests that fit, are comfortable, and that your family will actually wear!

So, back to these newer inflatable vests of WWII, not only were they reliable, but they also kept the user in a face up position, which had been a real problem with earlier vests - some of which could rotate the user into an upside-down position, often with tragic consequences.

Life vest advocates, myself included, like to remind fellow boaters that when someone actually needs a life vest, they may be severely injured or unconscious and unable to maintain a face-up posture, much less put one on.

In my family we wore life jackets as kids, but once we hit a certain age, I guess early teens, we no longer had to, at least not when on the family boat - and why should we - we grew up with a neighborhood pool, we were all good swimmers!

- According to the National Safe Boating Council, 2/3 of all drowning victims were “good swimmers.”

We were expected to wear a life jacket when boating unsupervised, but at some point, it just became acceptable to simply have one PFD stowed onboard for every passenger, as per the law.

It wasn’t until much later in life that I decided to wear one whenever underway on a boat. There were a lot of factors that influenced that decision.

Family pressure was one, wanting to set a good example another.

Also realizing that all military, law enforcement, and maritime professionals wear them - I probably should too?

I remember doing sea trials with clients who declined our (at the time optional) life vest suggestion, some were older, some not so steady on their feet.

It was a real concern for me.

Eventually I changed the policy, and I encourage you to do the same -it’s your boat, you’re the captain, you make the rules.

If you’re on one of our boats, the vest is mandatory.

Also there was this night a few years ago when a couple of kids in their 20s drowned on the creek within eyesight of my dock. They were in a canoe, it was late and all presumptions were that they had been drinking.

The next day law enforcement boats from several jurisdictions were searching the waters, a Coast Guard helicopter was flying nonstop, even drones were searching the shore lines.

Waterfront property owners in the area were encouraged to walk their shorelines, and search parties were organized of all ages.

It took the authorities the entire day to find both bodies.

They brought in experts on currents, did some triangulations and figured out where to look, the state police divers pulled up the second body around 5:30 that evening.

While I was walking the shoreline, the brother of one of the two kids pulled up in a boat, he was doing the same. He seemed optimistic, this was just like his brother, and he’d show up later.

It was sad and tragic, and it was simple to me, if those kids had worn a life vest they would not have sunk, they would have floated.

They'd probably be here today, telling a different story about the night they learned a great lesson, maybe they’d have kids, and probably they’d make them wear life vests.

Similar scenarios play out every year on waterways across the country.

Rarely will you hear of a boating fatality in which the person was actually wearing a life vest - 83% of boat related drownings were not wearing a life vest - also a National Safe Boating Council stat.

Most popular excuses - too hot, uncomfortable, tan lines - but it often just gets down to not being the cool thing to do.

So, what’s the law say?

Federal Law requires that when a vessel is underway, children under 13 must where a lifejacket. The exception would be below deck or within an enclosed cabin.

State laws may differ and as I understand it, the federal law does not supersede the state law, but is used in states that do not have life jacket laws, as well as in federal waters.

Realizing this is already a bit long winded, here’s a bit more on life jackets…

There are 5 Classifications of types of PFDs

Type I - Offshore Life Jackets, designed to keep you face up, in rougher open waters where rescue times may be increased. These tend to be bulky and uncomfortable, they are mandatory on all commercial vessels.

They are always going to be orange, as orange strongly contrasts with blue and gray waters, making the wearer easier to locate. In the early 1900s they might have been white, blue or gray which unfortunately caused many victims to be lost at sea.

Type II - These are the bulky, generally orange or yellow life jackets that are found on nearly every boat -the ones that no one really likes to wear! They’re slightly more comfortable but less buoyant than a Type I, and designed for inshore or near shore use where rescue will hopefully not take too long, and may not turn an unconscious person face up.

Type III - These vests are recommended for protected, inland water near shore, where chances of immediate rescue are good.

They’re not suitable for extended survival in rough water, and not designed to turn unconscious people face up in water.

They tend to resemble an actual vest, and are more comfortable to wear than a Type I or a Type II, but also provide less floatation.

Type III vests are available in inflatable models that provide even more comfort and versatility than any other, making them more likely to be worn. We wear type III automatic inflatables whenever we’re underway.

Type IV - Throwable Devices - These are NOT to be worn, they are to toss to a person in a man overboard situation. They are also required to be easily accessible at all times on all boats.

Type V - Special Use PFDs are to be used only for their designed purpose (which is stated on the label) such as white water rafting, kayaking, wind surfing, etc. Type V vests must be worn (not stowed) to meet USCG requirements.

Back to that Stearns red plaid Vest, it’s a bit large, but if worn over a thick shirt, hoodie, or sweater , would look quite dapper. I may just wear it to dinner on chilly evenings.

Enjoy your Memorial Day Weekend, remember what it’s all about, and also enjoy the rest of National Safe Boating Week!

Congress, by joint resolution approved June 4, 1958 (36 U.S.C. 131), as amended, has authorized and requested the President to proclaim annually the 7-day period prior to Memorial Day weekend as "National Safe Boating Week.”

This Boston Whaler 130 Super Sport left YCM a few days ago for a campground on Lake George in New York's Adirondacks- what a great family photo!

There’s Steve & Jen from Pathfinder’s Express again - this time delivering a YCM 170 Montauk to Adam and Family in Northern Virginia.

She was delivered Wednesday afternoon and Adam was texting fun pics on the water a just few hours later!

This was the last one we could squeeze out the door before the holiday weekend -if you’re on the delivery list, we’re working straight through, so hang in there - we’ll be there soon!

If you're boating this weekend - these holidays can be crazy - so be vigilant, and put that life vest on!

Here’s another one off of the YCM Back Burner Project List!

She’s a 1975 Boston Whaler Newport non-running project!

We bought her down in Wilson, NC close to 3 years ago, and just don’t have the time in the foreseeable future to do her justice.

This is the 16’7 pre-smirk hull, and the second year of the Newport.

The Newport shared the same great hull as original Montauk, Nauset, Currituck, etc - just a matter of interior modifications.

The Newport had a wider, lower molded console extending from the starboard side with a low platform in front for seats.

Ours still has the spray shield on the bow rails - they don’t usually survive 48 years!

Also rare - surviving 48 years without being assaulted by a brush and a gallon of anti-fouling bottom paint, which is why we bought her to begin with!

There’s plenty of gelcoat crazing inside and out, bumps, bruises, and the motor is untested.

Our project boats are sold as they sit, are not sea trialed, started or checked over by a mechanic - and are best suited for folks looking for a project!

She’s $6500.

Please CALL between 10am and 7pm EST if interested in our Project Newport. 757-329-9979 Thanks!

With the last 3 Whalers to leave YCM (all in the past few days) heading to various places in New York, Pathfinders Express has been stacking miles on that Dodge truck!

A few days ago a 130 Super Sport was delivered to a really cool family owned camp ground on Lake George in the Adirondacks.

Another 130 Super Sport went to Upstate New York (we’re already getting pics from her new and excited family!)

Earlier this morning a 160 Super Sport left for a marina in the tiny town of Mannsville, NY, just north of Syracuse, just south of Canada.

The marina is on a naturally protected pond with an inlet feeding directly into Lake Ontario.

It’s always fun to see where they go, and to learn about new places, but it’s the follow up stories and pictures - the kids, the grandkids, the relationships and the great adventures - that’s the really cool and rewarding stuff.

If you’re on the delivery list, hang in there, we’ll be there soon!

Colleen’s YCM 130 Super Sport arriving this evening in Long Island, New York!

She was a real pleasure to work with!

This is Colleen’s first Whaler, but since she flies commercial jets, I think she’ll handle the 40 hp Merc just fine.

As for that right tail light, I swear it was working when it left Virginia earlier this morning….

Our #1 most requested boat - by far!  Boston Whaler 170 Montauk!

This one owner boat belonged to an older gentleman who recently moved on to an assisted living community. We often get calls from people entering the next stages of life, or from their families. We have built a reputation of being fair and helpful, while keeping the entire buying process simple, safe and professional.

He bought her new in 2004, replacing the Boston Whaler he lost during the tidal surges of Hurricane Isabel in 2003 - if you weren’t here, that was the big one for most of us living in Coastal Virginia (and most of the Mid-Atlantic).

He re-powered her in 2019 with a brand new Four Stroke Tohatsu 90 hp motor.

If you’re not familiar with Tohatsu, they’ve been around for decades, they’re made in Japan and have a long standing relationships with both Honda and Mercury.

In fact, if you have a current model Mercury 30hp or below, it’s actually a Tohatsu.

This motor is actually a rebranded Honda, - yep, same exact motor, different decals, different paint - lift off that cowling and cylinder head says Honda.

We will have more info, better pics, and pricing when she arrives, but here are a few details…

Factory Bimini Top, Bow Rails, Side Rails, Swim Platform, Galvanized Trailer w/ Folding Tongue & No Bottom Paint!

This will sell very fast - So Please Call for details between 10am and 7pm EST.

Thumbs Up from Jack in Connecticut!

Jack's YCM Whaler arrived yesterday in Connecticut!

During the summer months this 150 Montauk will be kept on a mooring in Westport Point Massachusetts, a quaint little Coastal New England town built around the Whaling industries of the late 17 and 1800s  - sounds pretty nice.

Boston Whaler Dauntless 17!

We brought this one in a few weeks ago from the freshwater lakes of Missouri!

1997 Boston Whaler Dauntless 17

This was Whalers compact 17 foot Dual Console built on the super tough, great riding, deep V Outrage II hull.

She’s powered by the original Johnson 115 two stroke.

We’ve got all the cushions, the original stainless steel ski pylon, a Lawrence color GPS/Fishfinder, etc.

She’s never been bottom painted, never been in saltwater, and has had two owners since new.

17k with trailer.

Our mechanic will go through her and we’ll have her in the water for sea trails soon as well.

2022 Boston Whaler 130 Super Sport!

She has 8 -as in 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 TOTAL HOURS!

This gorgeous 130 was purchased new last year by a “retired” gentleman in Reedville, Va (that’s my new, gentler and kinder term for “older fella”) - anyway, he’s a great guy, and the boats perfect, it’s just time to downsize!

Factory Options are as follows -

-Mercury’s 40 hp Four Stroke - Super reliable, quiet, efficient and easy to start.

-Gloss White hull with Boston Whaler’s super cool Light Blue Rear Accent Package.

-Teak Package - Teak wood covers the integrated swim platforms, a cool throwback to Whaler’s Classic 13.

Bimini Top - Black with high quality stainless steel frame and matching boot.

Swim Ladder - Stainless steel telescopic.

Windshield - Keeps the chilly air and spray away!

Wraparound bow rail - Keeps the grandkids and puppies inside!

Cover - Custom fit.

Galvanized Trailer - She’ll be offered with or without.

The all new 130 hull was introduced in 2019 and it’s the best riding 13’ Whaler to date.

Each generation of Boston Whaler’s much loved 13 is more forgiving than the last!

This hull is the perfect mix -a fun, dry and comfortable compact package that’s easy to tow, easy to launch and squeezes nicely into just about any garage.

Some of the cool new features include dual integrated swim platforms - these are a game changer for those that like getting in and out of the water!

They’re also a favorite spot for sitting and dangling one’s feet in the water while beached or at anchor.

The integrated swim platform was carried through on the new 160 Super Sport as well, it’s a great design!

This is also the first 13’ Whaler to have built in, locking dry storage - the top of the console has a hinged opening similar to that of a jet ski.

The compartment is watertight and perfect for cell phones, purses, dry clothing, etc.

She weighs 695 lbs dry and floats in 9” of water.

Add about 200 lbs for the motor, another 200 for gas & gear, and around 400 for the trailer - you’ll have about a 1500 lb package.

She’s perfect - No Holes Drilled, No Dings, No Chips, No Scratches and No Bottom Paint! - And No Waiting!

We’ll have lots of pics coming -and we’ll have her priced as soon as possible too.

As with all of our incoming boats - Please Call with Questions.

The pace is pretty fast these days -we keep the phone going from 10am to 7pm EST.

  • Other

The 160 Super Sport replaced both the 170 and the 150 Super Sports in 2019.  There are very few on the market, as very few boats were produced in to 2020 and 2021, so we really only have two full years of production to date, and most owners aren’t selling!

The 160 has fantastic ride quality, is stable, fast, fun and predictable.

The dual Integrated Swim Platforms on the transom with boarding ladder make getting in and out of the water easy!

The deep, high sides with internal stainless hand rails offers a safer feel than most earlier model side consoles.

The 160 is very versatile - great for skiing, tubing, inland fishing, or just a run to the sandbar or restaurant.

She’s beautiful, and we’ll be bringing her up to Virginia very soon - from there, getting her in front of our mechanic and in the water for sea trials.

More photos, info and pricing to follow.

She's here and she's beautiful!

74 Total Hours on the Four Stroke Mercury!

1988 Boston Whaler 15 Super Sport Limited!

2018 Mercury 60 hp Fuel Injected Four Stroke with Command Thrust!

- While we’re not certain of the hours, we’re certain they’re low - we’ll plug her in and read them upon arrival!

The Super Sport Limited was produced from 1986 to 1989 on the same fantastically fun classic 15’ Whaler hull -but instead of the traditional wooded benches and console, an all new one piece molded fiberglass interior consisting of dual consoles and two bench seats with backrests were added.

Both consoles had windshields (though most were broken or lost along the way) and the benches had comfortable cushions with storage below and behind.

Similar to a car’s trunk, there’s also a large removable fiberglass hinged lid covering the otherwise open space between the driver’s bench and motor, which makes for a clean look, while creating additional storage and concealing the fuel tank and battery.

If you’re lucky enough to find a Super Sport LTD, like the windshields, the trunk lids were often broken or lost along the way as well.

Because LTD was designed for family water sports, there’s a removable stainless steel ski pylon too  - yep, also often missing!  - Ours has ALL the cool original stuff!

During the same production period Boston Whaler also produced a 13 Super Sport Limited, and the interiors are actually interchangeable.

Our 15 SS LTD is a freshwater boat from Minnesota, she’s never seen saltwater, is in exceptional condition, and we’re very excited about her arrival here in Virginia!

With a dry weight starting under 600 lbs, a max horsepower rating of 70, a far better ride than it’s bone jarring 13 foot sibling - the Classic 15 hull is arguably the most fun Whaler ever built.

We don’t have an arrival date just yet (a couple weeks out) and we don’t have a price yet either  - though I do know she’ll be pricey.

More details to follow!

It's Tire Day @ YCM!

It’s Tire Day @ YCM!

Have you priced wheels and tires lately?

Trailer tires definitely aren’t the sexiest part of the boat package, and very few folks even ask us about tires - but they’re super important, and we tend to spend a lot of money and time on them!

While trailers in general are the least glamorous and least discussed part of the boat purchase, they’re often the biggest pain in the stern for us!

From dry and cracked tires, faulty lights and wiring, to bearing failures, rusty springs, axles and frames… If you’ve ever spent time on the side of the highway with a broken trailer, you understand!

And then there’s the titles…

Almost never is the amount of times a boat owner permanently loses their boat’s title, they all seem to understand the importance of a boat’s title - yet a high percentage seem to “lose” their trailer title - wouldn’t you think they’d keep the two together? It- happens -all -the -time…

Or, if they find the title, there’s someone else’s name on it…

Anyway, while trailers are often the bane of our existence, today we celebrate tire day, so take a good look at your trailer tires before towing - look for cracks on the sidewalls and inside the treads.

If they’re cracked, they’ll peel apart at highway speed.

Look for imperfections and uneven wear, and always keep your tires properly inflated!

Did you know that just like your favorite can of beer, all DOT approved tires sold in the United States also have a born on date?

Yep, it’s stamped right on the sidewall.

If they were made after 2000 it’s real easy to find - just look for “DOT” and follow clockwise until you see four digits in a circle- that’s the week and year of production.

There are lots of opinions as to how often you should replace your boat’s trailer tires, with many experts saying every 3-5 years -even if they look great!

Unlike the average car tire which tends to be replaced based on mileage and obvious wear, boat trailers tend to sit in one place for extended periods of time, and their tires, which are made of organic compounds simply deteriorate.

We don’t sell tires, but we buy a lot of tires!

Don’t be that guy on the side of the interstate, check before you tow! - and find that title too!

So this SS LTD Interior will be shipping out soon…

Aron first contacted York County Marine back in January with questions about our Boston Whaler Super Sport Limited interior, and logistics…

He’s restoring a classic 15 foot Whaler  -in Budapest, Hungary!

He keeps her on Lake Balaton, the largest freshwater lake in Central Europe.

Aron’s handling the international shipping part, we’re

delivering the interior, bow rail, and trailer to the international marine terminals in New Jersey.

We’ve also ordered a Wm J Mills bimini top and mooring cover - if you’re not familiar with Mills, they were the only OEM canvas supplier to Boston Whaler for over 40 years - if it’s a classic Whaler, Mills supplied the canvas.  They have all the templates, and their quality is top shelf.

YCM picked up this interior last year in Northern Indiana from a company that uses classic 13 and 15 foot Boston Whalers for algae control on lakes in the midwest.  They remove all the original interior components to make room for their environmentally friendly spraying equipment and a custom helm.

Since the classic 13 and 15 are close in width, the SS LTD interior was designed to drop into either, allowing Boston Whaler to offer two new boats, without actually updating the hulls.

This transformed the otherwise basic two bench mahogany interior into a more modern, and more comfortable one piece fiberglass setup with cushions, backrests, storage, ski pylon, removable rear trunk lid, and dual windshields.

The 13 and 15 Super Sport Limiteds were only produced for three years, 1986-1989, and are highly sought after models.  Finding a SS LTD can be a tough hunt (especially a 15), finding just the interior -quite a bit more rare, one in this condition  -that’s unicorn hair kinda stuff.

Lake Balaton does not allow internal combustion motors, it’s all sails, electric, or paddles.

Aron plans to power his Boston Whaler Super Sport Limited with a state-of-the-art electric 50 hp equivalent outboard, which is currently on back order from a company called Pure Watercraft.

Ready or not, electric outboards are coming, and all the big players are involved.

Mercury introduced its Avator line last year, the first of which is equivalent to about 3.5 hp, and will be available later this year.  Two larger versions in the 9.9 -15 hp equivalent hp range are on the horizon.

Yamaha introduced their Harmo concept in 2021, Suzuki’s will launch in 2024, Honda is keeping their electric outboard technology under tights wraps for now, but they’re working on it.

General Motors recently acquired a 25% stake ($150m) in a cutting edge Seattle based company called Pure Watercraft - they make all electric outboards as well as all electric boats.

While I don’t think we’ll be seeing a battery powered  replacement for your twin 300s anytime soon (nor am I looking to turn this into a typical online EV vs fossil fuel debate) we are starting to see some pretty cool innovations and options particularly in the lower hp ranges   - keep an eye on those Pure Watercraft folks!

Hungary is a landlocked, eastern European country  with democratically elected leadership, sharing borders with seven other nations - Austria, Croatia, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Ukraine.

They gained their freedom from Soviet control in 1990, and joined NATO in 1999.

I suspect Aron’s may be the first ever Hungarian 15 Super Sport Limited  - we’re definitely looking forward to pictures on Lake Balaton!

Another one heading out the gates, this one’s going to Kevin in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio!

You may have seen her posted under project boats on our current inventory list.

She’s a ’95 Boston Whaler 17 Guardian, and a retired Kansas law enforcement boat.

We picked her up from a private owner in Nebraska about three years ago.

Historically speaking, we prefer not to sell our boats as projects, but we’ve currently

got a few more than we have time to sort out!

Three years on our back burner = time to move!

Plus there’s a lot of folks out there that really want a project Whaler!

Another South of the Border I95 rest stop pic

- a bit blurry, but we’ll blame the weather, not the photographer!

This time its our Boston Whaler 14 Dauntless!

She was completely updated two years ago -the electronics & gadget budget alone was larger than that of most mega-yachts -and she got a brand new Yamaha 70 four stroke too!

Pathway Express picked her up yesterday in Stuart Florida, about an hour north of Fort Lauderdale on the St Lucie River, and she arrived @ York County Marine this evening.

We have a possible sale pending, but at this moment, she’s available.

Give is a call with questions.

Busy times - There goes our '68 Boston Whaler Standard - she left for her new home in Virginia Beach earlier today.

You may recall this one stared in a York County Marine video last December with the heading "she's a bit rough".

Someone's getting a cool little 55 year old skiff!

YCM a different kind of boat dealer

A few days ago we mentioned a Classic 1975 Boston Whaler 15 Sport “In The Pipeline” and arriving soon from the suburbs of Chicago.

We bought her from John, who, in midst of downsizing and moving, realized it was time to let her go - and not without some emotion, mind you.

He’s in his mid 50s, we’re actually the same age, the boat was just a year old when his father bought her from the original owner - some 47 years ago!

John inherited the boat when his father passed, so, lots of memories, lots of emotions…

John’s father kept her in the garage. He built a casting deck, raised the console and discarded the original benches along the way. He even glued down some 1970s brown indoor / outdoor carpeting…

He definitely made the boat his own, sort of converting her to his own version of a Boston Whaler bass boat.

What he didn’t do was drill a lot of holes, bottom paint, put her in saltwater, or expose her the elements.

Between the brown carpet covering the decks and keeping her in the garage, the hull had been nicely preserved.

There is no gelcoat crazing - at all. Nearly unheard of.

In fact she’s one of the best 15’ candidates I’ve ever seen for a non-intrusive, simple restoration.

We’ve removed most of his handiwork in preparation for that restoration.

According to Boston Whaler’s records, she was originally delivered to Thede’s Marine in Downer's Grove, IL on June 29th, 1975.

This is actually YCM’s second Classic Whaler to have the Thede’s Marine molded plastic dealer logo on the stern, the other being a near perfect 1979 11 foot tender we acquired from an estate sale a couple of years ago.

Finding much/any information about this long defunct Boston Whaler dealer has proven a difficult task - if anyone knows anything about them, feel free to share!

The Classic 15 hull was produced from 1975 to 2000.

There were a handful of models offered along the way, with names like - Sport, Super Sport, Super Sport LTD, and Striper - the differences bing the drop in interiors.

The 15 Sport Center Console was a little different, and probably my favorite, it utilized a trimmed down Montauk console and similar below deck rigging tunnel. We’ve got one on our back burner that will eventually make it to the inventory list.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the “Mischief” as well, a sort of strange, duckbilled looking mini speed boat, which also shared the classic 15 hull - it had a top cap which covered the bow, rendering much of the boat’s real estate unusable - in fairness, it did look pretty cool, and only took up space in the brochure for two years…

As production wound down, the final few years of the Classic 15 were either a basic model called the “Standard” or two slightly beefier versions used primarily for commercial and law enforcement purposes called the Alert and Utility.

The Classic 15 has become a bit of a cult favorite amongst already fanatical Whaler enthusiasts - they’re, fun, light, and fast with a ride far superior to that of the smaller, and much more prevalent 13 foot sibling.

The max horsepower is 70, which makes for a very spirited ride with top speeds in the 40-42+ mph range.

The official introduction of the 15 foot hull was in 1976, and this is the first 1975 we’ve ever actually seen.

As it turns out, of the thousands of Classic 15’s produced over a 25 year run, ours is hull # 25.

The promise I made to John was that I’d find her a good home, and I will.

The problem is -I like this one, so she may just end up staying here with us.

YCM a different kind of boat dealer

This one’s heading to Texas, for now…

I’ve always felt there’s an interesting story behind every boat we’ve bought, or for that matter, sold, or for this matter - trailer…

Two years ago we bought a gorgeous classic Boston Whaler Outrage 25 from a gentleman in Maryland, you may remember seeing pictures of her in our inventory.

We sold her to a commercial real estate guy in California, who wanted her delivered to Miami.

He planned to do an immediate re-power with new Yamahas, and keep the boat in a Miami marina with easy access to offshore fishing and to his second home.

He didn’t want the trailer, we did, so it all worked out.

It’s a BoatMaster tandem axle, commercial quality trailer, made in Fort Myers Florida to the highest of standards.

BoatMaster builds their trailers to fit the specific boat and use. While they also sell to the public, most of their business is with the U.S. armed forces, as well as other state, local, and federal agencies.

In fact, nearly all of Boston Whaler’s Commercial Products Division (military, law enforcement, and commercial boats) had custom built BoatMaster trailers underneath them when they left the factory.

We had planned to use this one for transporting the larger boats we purchase, which often don’t have trailers -but our focus has been narrowed to smaller Whalers, primarily 21’ and under - so storing a 35’ long trailer doesn’t make a lot of sense for us, but it’s exactly what Mark needed…

So, we got a call about two weeks ago from a guy named Mark, and here’s his story…

Mark has a couple of homes, one in Northern California, one in Wyoming, and a third in Bahia de Los Angeles, Baja California, Mexico, on the coast of the Gulf of California.

He kept his 24 foot Boston Whaler Outrage at his Baja home, but in early December it was stolen out of his driveway.

According to Mark, this area is controlled by the cartel, and most of the boats stolen in this region are never seen again.

They’re generally stripped, taken out to the desert and burned - but Mark’s Outrage had been recently re-powered with twin Suzuki 140s, it has a very capable deep V hull, and would no doubt be an attractive rig for any smuggling operation.

Two days after the disappearance of his boat, someone reported seeing it traveling north on a highway in Ensonatta, Mexico, on the Pacific Coast, and about 350 miles from Mark’s home.

He posted pics of his Outrage all over social media, even posted a $5,000, no questions asked reward for her return, but to no avail.

He was also in regular contact with friends in U.S. law enforcement.

Several weeks after his Outrage was stolen Mark was told by the United States Coast Guard that his boat was being used for smuggling drugs and they were going to attempt an intercept that evening.

Excited about her possible return, Mark’s one request was  “Please don’t sink it!”

Not all of the boats captured offshore are towed back in, many instead become target practice.  They’re riddled with 50 caliber holes until they sink to the bottom, becoming the ocean’s next underwater reef.

While those Suzukis may have made some bottom dwelling creatures a good home, I think we all know that a Boston Whaler would at best just create a floating debris field!

Anyway, if they know the boat has an American registered owner, they will avoid this practice when possible.

The next day Mark was disappointed to hear that the bad guys  got away, but was told, “we’ll get them next time.”

Apparently these boats will make numerous smuggling runs  back and forth -and sure enough, the next time, the Coast Guard got ‘em!

She was off the coast of San Diego with 9 people onboard, apparently throwing contraband over the side as they were approached.

Five suspected smugglers were arrested, the remaining four, were apparently being smuggled themselves.

The boat was towed to the USCG base at Ballast Point in San Diego, and is still there in the custody of U.S. Customs.

Mark has only seen photos so far - see attached.

The good news is that no “destructive inspections” took place, which can be summed up as the practice of cutting holes to find stuff.

The bad news is - in an effort to avoid detection, the boat was painted a flat gray inside and out, including those new Suzukis.

The T-Top and most of the stainless steel was removed - essentially everything shiny was discarded - and who knows what happened to the the trailer!

Apparently this kind of thing happens enough that insuring a boat in Mexico isn’t even a possibility.

Mark is hoping the federal government will release the boat soon, in the meantime, he needed to find a trailer…

We’re delivering the BoatMaster to Texas, where Mark is vacationing, he will take it to San Diego from there - we wish him the best with his restoration!

Part of the story (just how the government tracked this boat) we’ve agreed not to tell, as it may blur some lines of secrecy - but there’s some pretty cool stuff out there guarding and protecting our shores…

YCM  a different kind of boat dealer

Our Dauntless 14 is AVAILABLE!

Finding a nice Whaler is often quite a bit harder than selling a nice Whaler, so one of the last things we say when you buy one of our boats is - “call us if you ever want to sell!”

In The YCM Pipeline - Again!

Y’all may remember this one, we posted her a year ago this week!

We sold her to a gentleman in Stuart Florida, now he’s moving inland and selling her back to YCM!

Here’s last years write up…

One Impressive Boston Whaler Dauntless 14...

So about two years ago we sold Dave in Iowa a pretty nice 1999 Dauntless 14 - you’ve probably heard me discuss the even # Dauntlesses vs the odd # Dauntlesses - if not, we like the evens, not as much the odds (17 being the exception, that one’s built on an Outrage hull!).

Dave wanted the boat, but not the original motor - as most of you know, finding a new outboard during the great motor shortage of the past two and a half years would require the right mix of good luck and timing - and it usually means someone canceled an order.

Dave actually found a Yamaha dealer three hours down the road with an unclaimed brand new 70 four stroke still in the crate and available.

The 70 Yamaha is super efficient and weighs 100lbs less than the closest competitor, making it the perfect match for this 14 foot boat - a lucky find for sure!

The winters are long in Iowa, and Dave went right to work, filling in little gelcoat imperfections, completely rewiring, even changing the location of the inboard fuel tank - and on and on…

I would periodically receive texted photos and detailed descriptions of his progress. He took this otherwise nice boat on as a perfectionist in need of a winter project.

The 14 foot Dauntless was only produced for two years, from 1999-2000. If you went to the boat show in 1999, you would have seen a Dauntless 14, 16 and 18 side by side, each being a few grand more than the other.

These were the next generation of Boston Whaler - signaling the final and well overdue departure from the classic, yet dated Whaler hulls.

Back to odd vs even for a minute - the 13 and 15 Dauntlesses were really boats that never should have been.

You see, in the early ’90’s when BW should have been looking at their aging lineup with a bit of embarrassment and eager to introduce replacements for the classic 13, 15 and 17 footers, they instead jumped on the jet boat bandwagon, introducing the all new 13 and 15 Rage jet boats, which incidentally are two of the very few Boston Whalers to defy the rules of defying depreciation..

BW had a significant investment in these molds, so once they figured out their future wasn’t in jets, a decision was made to remove the inboard motor and jet drive, close the hole in the transom, change the interior, bolt on an outboard and call it a Dauntless (13 and 15).

The resulting ride quality was not great, the 15 being better than the often porpoising 13.

Conversely, the next generation Dauntless, the 14, 16 and 18 were high quality, big, wide, excellent riding boats worthy of the marquee, offering a true, exciting, yet expensive alternative to Boston Whaler’s aging fleet.

At just over 15k, (some as much as 20k) the Dauntless 14 was considered very expensive, even by Boston Whaler standards. This boat was designed as a high end alternative, not a replacement for the classic 13. The all new 130 Sport was slated to arrive in 2000 for that purpose, at nearly half the price of the Dauntless 14.

They were also heavy, at 1000 pounds dry (before motor) the boat was too much for the davit systems on the average modestly sized yacht, eliminating the overbuilt 14 foot center console as the ideal tender.

To most, the Dauntless 16 with rear seating, more room and higher horsepower was seen as more practical, and it well outsold the short lived 14.

The folks that bought a Dauntless 14 (my Dad included) did so for the outstanding build quality, scaled down big boat looks and big boat features - and because it would fit in the garage.

So, back to Dave in Iowa - after putting countless man hours (and dollars) into his Dauntless, yet only 23 hours of on the water time, he decided that seeing the country from the driver’s seat of an RV is next for him, so we got the call…

Here’s a list of some of Dave’s installations -

-Yamaha 70 Four Stroke with warranty until 2026

-Lenco Trim Tabs

-Minn Kota Terrova I-Pilot Trolling Motor

-Minn Kota DH-40 Anchor Winch

-Dual batteries with Dual Minn Kota Chargers

-Dual (yes 2!) Simrad Touch Screens

-Simrad VHF

-Simrad Sonic Hub2 Streaming Stereo w/Simrad Speakers

They all talk to each other -one networks with the motor, taking the place of all analog gauges (this is very cool, big boat stuff).

The other, a state of the art GPS, and fishfinder - everything works together, including the stereo, and looks like it was installed by a top tier marine electronics shop.

Dave also replaced the cushions with new Boston Whaler factory tan upholstery.

Oh, and there’s new custom covers…

Since these great little boats essentially priced itself out of the market, Whaler pulled the plug after just two years, making them both sought after and very difficult to find.

We are working out a price and sending a truck to Iowa soon. Dave has well over 30k in the boat, all I know is she’ll be priced in the 20s.

These are hard to find, and one of our most

requested models.

We’ll read the hours and post more info soon…

SOLD!  🙂.   -2016 Boston Whaler 170 Montauk - Freshwater boat arriving this week from Wisconsin - Mercury 90 hp Four Stroke, Rarely seen Rear Seat Package, Hydraulic Steering, Full Cushion Set, Bimini Top, Remote Trolling Motor, etc. This Whaler has under 10 Total Hours of freshwater use, and is garage kept - No Bottom Paint, and Perfect.

The 170 Montauk remains our #1 request, and this one is as nice as it gets.

-1997 Boston Whaler 17 Dauntless Dual Console - Freshwater boat arriving next week from Branson, Missouri. Johnson 115 Two Stroke, Bimini Top, Full Cushion Package, Swim Platform, No Bottom Paint and in Excellent Condition.

The 17 Dauntless is Boston Whaler’s “Compact Dual Console”, built on Whaler’s very capable Outrage 17 II hull.

This is an excellent smaller, family fish and ski boat - lots of seating, easy to tow, easy to launch, fits in the garage - and we’ve got two of them!

-1975 Boston Whaler 15 Sport - The first year of the Classic 15 - Pound per pound, the “funnest” (a grammatical no-no that would’ve guaranteed a lecture on proper English in my 1970’s family household) of all Boston Whalers.

The Classic 15 is the 13’s highly sought after big sibling - offering a far better ride, more horsepower, speed and a sports car kinda feel. We buy them when we can.

This one’s a freshwater boat from the suburbs of Chicago. She’s been in the same family since ’76 or ’77. She has the original factory tall profile bow rails, side rails and a Suzuki 65 hp two stroke w/power trim that was purchased new in ’85. She’s a survivor - Forty-Eight Years, and NO BOTTOM PAINT!

A promise was made to find her a good home.

Here’s our 1999 Boston Whaler 18 Dauntless

       - She’s a freshwater boat from Grand Rapids, Michigan!

She’s powered by the original Mercury 135 Optimax, Fuel Injected Two Stroke with only 352 total hours - and 169 of those were below 1500 RPM!

We have the full cushion package, along with the giant rear bench seat!

If you’ve been following us for any amount of time, you know we’ve always referred to the 18 Dauntless as “the relationship saver” -it’s pretty corny, but true.

So often one person wants a center console, but the significant other wants a dual console, or anything with enough seating for all the grandkids, girls night out, or what ever. Sometimes it gets heated- then they see that huge bench seat across the back of an 18 Dauntless Center Console - boom, everybody’s happy!

Other factory options include -Full Wrap Around Bow Rail,

Side Rails, Ski Pylon, and Rigging for Trolling Motor.

She’s priced @ 20k, Aluminum Trailer included.

We picked up a few of these OEM Boston Whaler Livewells for our online charity auctions a couple of years ago.

This is the last one we have, and the last one you'll likely ever find.

This is New Old Stock - Only opened for display purposes.

Taylor Made was contracted by Boston Whaler to make these high quality portable livewell. They retailed for around 500 bucks and were only available through your Boston Whaler dealer.

It’s not easy to find a lot of info on these, but if you have a 2018 BW brochure you’ll see one strapped to the internal hand rails of a 150 Super Sport.

The quality and feel of this heavy duty tank is excellent.

There is a Rule 460 gph bilge pump mounted inside and an external cigarette lighter type accessory plug for power.

The built-in carrying handles have slots for filet knives and scissors.

The hardware is all high quality stainless steel.

Check out the Boston Whaler logo etched in the clear acrylic lid - this thing is nice, and most any fish would be happy to swim within.

Completely portable, high quality, and no holes to be drilled!

$500 - We’ll send $100 of that to JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation), our favorite charitable cause!

Local pick up in Yorktown, VA - or add shipping cost.

Not sure what it is about South of the Border, but it’s become Steve’s photo op of choice whenever Pathfinders Express is heading north on i95…

Anyway, that 130 & 150 Super Sport will arrive here at YCM later today!

Details to follow…

Anyone looking for a Boston Whaler Eastport project?

Eastport = Nauset + rear bench.

The boat’s in Snow Hill, NC, she belongs to an older gentleman who’s family purchased her new in 1969.

She’s a bit rough with lots of gelcoat crazing throughout.

The Mahogany interior has seen better days, and the 1985(ish) Evinrude 75 does not run.

$3,500 is the asking price including the trailer.

That’s about all I know, we don’t have a dog in the fight, just hoping to help the owner find her a good home.

54 years old and no one's gotten near her with a bucket of bottom paint!

FYI - if the windshield looks funny, it's not attached, just sitting on the console upside-down..

If you’re interested, give us a call and we’ll patch you through.

In The YCM Pipeline!

EXCEPTIONAL 2019 Boston Whaler 170 Montauk!

We’re bringing this one in all the way from the freshwaters of Lake Michigan, she’s garage kept, she’s never spent the night outside, has less than 30 total hours -and she’s perfect!

2019 was year two of the all new 170 Montauk -the first 17’ Montauk with an internal fuel tank, and the first with an integrated, well thought out (albeit expensive) rear seating option.

She’s bigger and heavier, has more storage and better ride quality than any of the previous 17’ Montauk models.

Ours is exceptional and was special ordered with the following options …

-Powerful Mercury 115 Four Stroke with Stainless Steel Prop and Hydraulic Steering - Nice upgrade over the standard 90 hp, faster (expect 45 MPH) and great for water sports!

-Desert Tan Gelcoat - Looks more “Classic Whaler” than the standard glossy “White” gelcoat.

Speaking of classic looks, the lines on the newly redesigned Montauks (170, 190 and 210) are classically Whaler beautiful, and reminiscent of earlier Outrage models.

-Rear Seating Package - This makes her a true family friendly Whaler!

-Bow Cushion with the rarely seen full Sun Lounge! - When you’re more into catching rays than catching fish, this option converts your entire bow into a comfy layout platform!

-Teak Package - Teak Trim on Swim Platform and Gunnels, paying homage to that Classic Whaler look!

-Spilt Front, Wrap Around Bow Rail - Safety first, but with an open center!

Whether you’re hopping off at the beach, reeling in a fish or weighing anchor, your bow rail won’t get in the way!

-Internal Low Profile Stainless Steel Rails - These help you hold on!

-Angled Swim Platform with Stainless Telescopic Ladder (and classic Teak overlay) - Great looks and angled away from the prop for safer boarding!

-Bimini Top - High quality stainless steel frame, and your dermatologist will approve.

-Ski Pylon - Nice add if you’re a serious water skier, into wakeboarding or just towing the grandkids on a tube!

-Flush Mount Raymarine Fishfinder/GPS with 7” touch screen

-Dealer Installed Fusion Marine Stereo with Bluetooth and 4 Speakers

-Custom Console and Reversible Pilots Seat Covers

-Galvanized Trailer with Folding Tongue - maybe she’ll fit in your garage too!

We’ll have her here soon, she’ll definitely be on the pricier side, and of course, quality trade-ins are always considered!

More details (including price) to follow soon!

Give us a call if this is the boat you’re looking for - this one should sell pretty quick.
