A little history…
The first Boston Whaler 15 foot hull debuted in 1976 as a “Sport”, with two mahogany benches and a side console.
There were many different interior iterations over the years which were reflected in the boat's name or description.
This much loved hull was offered in the brochures through 1994, a beefier version could be special ordered through the Commercial Products Division into the early 2000s.
The 1994 termination of the classic 15 hull made way for the Rage 15 jet boat and Dauntless 15, both of which shared the same newer hull.
-I promise, as long as I’m at the helm, YCM will never post a Rage jet boat in our inventory…
Finally in 2003, the 15 Sport returns, this time with a brand new hull and a “0” at the end of the name.
The 150 Sport offers a “hose it off and go” all fiberglass interior, self bailing cockpit, and excellent ride quality.
Boston Whaler produced this hull through their 50th anniversary in 2008.
We’re big fans of the 150 Sport, you’ll often see them in our inventory.
The 150 Super Sport was introduced in 2009, another completely new boat from the keel up.
While maintaining all the good of her predecessor, the new hull sports an updated look, with modern lines, taller sides, and a more user friendly interior.
There are well thought-out internal stainless steel handrails throughout.
The half bench is replaced by a rather clever cooler, providing dry storage, seating and insulation for beverages and snacks - or if your a fisherman, fish.
It can also be configured in two different positions, opening up walk-around space, and offering an alternative seating arrangement.
Perhaps more importantly, the ride quality continued to improve.
Out of the nearly 50 years of fifteen foot side console Whalers, the 150 Super Sport is the best all around family/fun boat, it’s more refined, comfortable and practical than all previous models.
The last year of the 150 SS (and the 170 SS) was 2018, when the two were combined to form the new 160 SS - another great Super Sport -we’ve got one of those in our inventory as well!

2004 Boston Whaler 130 Sport

The new (and arguably late to the scene) 130 Sport was introduced in 2000, finally replacing the much beloved and iconic Classic 13 Whaler - don’t get me wrong, we all love the Classic, but it did have a 42 year run, it was time..
This new hull design held fast to its heritage, maintaining unmistakable, yet updated Boston Whaler lines with cathedral hull, smirked bow, self bailing cockpit, a true hose it off and go all fiberglass interior, and of course, unsinkable construction methods.
The 130 Sport is heavier, wider, more stable, has higher sides and offers far better ride quality than the fun, but rather unforgiving classic 13 it replaced.
By the way, any time there is “0” listed after the size, as in 13’0”, or 17’0”, it denotes a post-classic hull.
Ours is in very good condition, she features a Bimini Top, Bench and Bow Cushion Set, GPS/Fishfinder, Stainless Steel Prop, Full Sunbrella Mooring Cover, and of course Suzuki’s 40 hp Four Stroke with just a few hours of run time.
And No Bottom Paint!

2019 Boston Whaler 160 Super Sport!
The 160 SS was added to the lineup in 2019, replacing both the 150 and the 170 Super Sports.
With a 90 hp rating, a 6’10” beam and a total length of 17’5” -she’s definitely more 170 than 150.
These are very hard to come by -consider a brand new boat going into production in 2019, immediately followed by the greatest boat demand in U.S. history while facing factory shutdowns, labor shortages and all other forms of supply chain issues - Boston Whaler just hasn’t had the chance to make very many of these 160s, and very few of the folks that were lucky enough to find one would consider selling!

- Is the nearly impossible to find Danbury Mint 1/24th scale Boston Whaler Nauset!
Just like the 50th Anniversary 13’ Whaler we posted a few days ago, the proceeds will benefit our favorite charity, JDRF - The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the world leader in research for the cure of Type 1 Diabetes.
We found this little boat down in Florida, she belonged to an older gentleman in the midst of downsizing and actually moving onto his other boat - which we believe to be 1/1 scale.
He kept her stowed away in the original box - never taken out and never displayed - it’s like stepping back to 1999 and ordering her brand new!
The one in the pics is actually YCM’s display model, yours is still boxed up from the factory!
Here’s a little Nauset info from an earlier YCM post…
When Boston Whaler introduced the Nauset and the Eastport in 1961 they were the world’s first production center console boats - there was nothing even remotely similar.
Yacht quality craftsmanship on a 16 foot unsinkable hull, with a center mounted console.
No one had seen anything like this before.
The Sakonnet was added two years later, together these three models set the stage for the most popular center console of all time, the Montauk, which was introduced 1973.
There’s not a lot of difference between these three Pre-Montauk Center Consoles - in fact, they are identical, sharing the same hull and mahogany center console, with only a few interior options separating one from the other.
The Nauset was the most popular.
The Eastport was simply a Nauset with a rear mahogany bench and side rails.
The Sakonnet came with a removable mahogany front deck, bow and side rails, and Boston Whaler’s first reversible pilot seat, also made of mahogany.
When these highly collectable die cast models were offered by Danbury Mint in 1999, Boston Whaler enthusiasts snapped them up quickly, those that scoffed at the $130 price tag soon lived to regret it.
Fast forward 23 years - they seldomly show up on the market, and their value has rocketed.
When these very intricate and rather delicate models do actually show up for sale, most will inevitably have missing or broken parts - that stern light is generally the first to go!
The price is $995, boat, motor and trailer, delivered to your door - unless you live overseas, then we’ll need to talk shipping cost!

She’s a pretty boat, nice and solid, but she’ll need a bit of love before getting back on the water - and she’s been patiently waiting!
We bought this Whaler in Maryland over three years ago!
The feeding frenzy stirred by covid 19 kept anything needing more than just a little service away from our front lines.

We purchased this one from a Maryland gentleman in his early 80s, he’s the second owner.
She’s in great shape, without all the gelcoat issues we often see on Classic Whalers.
Boston Whaler did away with teak trim on the Montauk by the mid 90’s, so this one has a more modern feel and far less maintenance than older 17s.
She’s powered by the original Johnson Ocean Pro 90 hp two stroke.
Not to get too technical, but this is OMC's 60 degree block, loop charged motor - they are tough, reliable, great running motors.

This one just arrived @ YCM last night!
1998 Boston Whaler 21 Conquest in fantastic condition!
We picked her up from an older gentleman in Abbeville, Luisiana, he’s the second owner, his fishing buddy was the first.
Between the two of them they only put 147 hours on clock!
The boat is exceptionally clean, no bottom paint, never left in the water, still glossy.
The cabin cousins actually look new.
Speaking of cabin, the layout in the Conquest is really cool, everything is modular. The cabin cushions can lay flat for sleeping or be moved around to form comfortable and clever seating area (see the brochure picture). Grady Whites 20 footers got nothing on this cabin!
There’s a head that can be connected to a holding tank, or used as a simple portapottie.
She has a freshwater holding tank for wash downs or showering off after a swim.
There is also a raw water wash down for cleaning fish guts off the decks!
She has lots of factory options including trim tabs, hydraulic steering, Bimini Top, removable aft table, livewell, rod holders, etc.
The original Mercury 200 hp OptiMax fuel Injected two stroke outboard has a stainless steel prop and only 147 hours - that’s pretty incredible!
This is the same great hull as the 21 Outrage, but in an overnighter. She’s big and beamy with great ride quality.
She’ll be available with or without trailer and you can look for her to be priced in the mid twenties.
I can say with confidence, there is no other Conquest 21 for sale anywhere as nice as this one.

1984 17 Montauk
We recently picked up this 1984 Boston Whaler Montauk 17 from the original owner!
This has always been a locally owned Whaler, in fact she’s from the old neighborhood that I grew up in.
During my high school summers I remember watching some older and much cooler neighborhood kids slalom skiing behind this particular ’84 Montauk.
I was running around those creeks back then in the family 11 footer, on top of the world, completely unplugged from everything - just needed to be home by dinner.
Our 11’ Whaler had a 15 horsepower Johnson with electric start and we had a blast skiing behind that little boat.
Nowadays folks seem to think you need a few hundred horse power coupled to an equally powerful stereo system capable of disrupting the lives of all those that love peace and quiet for miles in order to waterski, or to just enjoy the water in general. The truth is, you don’t.
Anyway this 17 foot Montauk was absolutely beautiful when she would shoot past our 11 footer nearly 40 years ago!
Back then she was powered by a 90 horsepower Evinrude.
Recently the owners decided it was time to sell and reached out to YCM. I knew the boat immediately.
We bought her as she is, without a motor.
In a slower paced world we would probably mate her up with a good, pre-owned 70-90 horsepower motor, but for now I think we may just offer her as is, allowing the next owner to decide on appropriate power.
Many of our classic Whalers are purchased by people who love older Whalers but want the reliability of a new four stroke outboard motor.
We can help with those decisions, and we can help facilitate them as well. YCM has delivered many Whalers directly to the outboard motor dealer of our clients’ choosing.
The boat is in very good, very solid condition. She has never been bottom painted, or left in the water - I love that!
Nearly all vintage Whalers have some gelcoat crazing or spiderwebbing - this one has very, very little.
While not perfect, she is a very good example of an original, unrestored 17 foot Montauk. These are getting harder to find in this condition.
Most 40 year old boats have been through a series of owners, all with differing ideas as to what add-ons are needed. The worst of which I refer to as the “hobbyist”..
Our one owner Whaler has not had a bunch of holes drilled throughout to install yesterday’s outdated gadgets, there’s never been a trolling motor screwed down to the bow, no weird rod holders screwed into the gunnels, etc.
The original 37 year old galvanized trailer she sits on is also in good shape considering the age as well!
I constantly talk about flushing motors and rinsing trailers - this is a good example of how long a saltwater trailer can last when rinsed and cared for.
We’re going to take more pics and come up with pricing soon, but definitely give us a call if this is what you are looking for!

MERCURY WATER MOUSE!
It’s both cool and cute. If you’re a single guy, go get yourself a puppy and buy this Water Mouse. The rest is up to you.
These little 10 footers were a collaboration between Mercury and Disney back in the late 90s.
They were used at Disney theme parks, and I think sold through a limited number of dealers as well. They are fairly rare, showing up occasionally on the market.
The idea was a relatively tame, cool looking mini speed boat that both kids and adults could rent.
They are tough little boats made of a high impact plastic instead of fiberglass, so a little bump against the dock probably won’t matter.
Most of the boats we post here are Whalers, but I’ve always had an affection for small boats, and technically Mercury is owned by Brunswick, who also owns Boston Whaler - so there.
The max horsepower is 15, the Disney boats were outfitted with Mercury 9.9s. We picked this one up without a motor.
They seat two and have a built in 8 gallon fuel tank.
So, if you’ve got a small outboard sitting around this could be a fun little inexpensive boat for the kids, grandkids, or for you - just be ready for attention!
You won’t get past the ramp without half a dozen people wanting to talk about this boat!
Buy her before I stick a couple of YCM decals on the sides and a motor on the back..

Our YCM Christmas Mantle Boston Whaler Nauset created quite a stir a few months ago - with lots of messages and emails - “Where can I get one?” “Is that for sale?” “I want it!” “Sell it to me!” and so on…
Danbury Mint offered these 1/24 scale models sometime in the early 2000s for about $150, and they didn’t take long to sell out.
Whaler fans have been patiently waiting for them to show back up on the used boat market ever since, and like most used Whalers they have defied all rules of depreciation. In fact, if you can find one, they are really expensive!
We’ve actually been planning this charity raffle for quite a while, but one key component has been missing - the boat!
Just like the bigger Whalers, inventory has been very hard to come by!
When they show up it’s usually on Ebay, we’ve missed the last two, both went for just over 500 bucks!
So, we’ve spent countless hours scouring the earth in search of one in perfect condition with original packaging.
When we found her, she was in Düsseldorf, Deutschland on Ebay.de.
Many of you may not be aware of this, but ebay has a presence in many countries all around the world, including Germany.
My new friend Nils was selling the boat for his aunt, who was downsizing and selling off his uncle’s Danbury Mint die-cast collection, consisting mostly of American muscle cars.
I’d put Nils in his early to mid-twenties, and a heck of a nice guy.

Basically what it says is that it’s like new and in the original packaging.
Fortunately, Nils’ English is exceptional, as my German has always been limited to the hood badge on a few of my favorite automobiles and maybe a line or two from that 99 Luftballons song.
I was able to log into Germany’s ebay, cut and paste to google translate, and have a pretty good idea of what was going on, but they still wouldn’t let me place a bid!
I had finally located this little boat and was denied the opportunity to acquire it through legitimate channels…
Sooo, at first it was not easy convincing Nils to bend the rules and cancel his ebay auction - which already had a few moderately interested German bidders and was up to around twenty bucks or so EU.
Apparently there are more restrictions on international shipping as well as higher shipping rates due to the pandemic - and I suspect Nils was at least a little skeptical of some American dude hitting him up through ebay.de's messaging system, offering ridiculous money for a 1/24th scale die-cast model boat that’s been sitting on a shelf in his aunt’s closet for nearly two decades!
After vetting Blitz and me through Facebook and the YCM website Nils convinced me to download the “WhatsApp” app on my iPhone. Communication was a breeze from there, and he soon agreed to ditch his fellow Ebay countrymen. I love capitalism.
A few days later I received an email from ebay.de accusing me of -

Which means I shared a phone number for the purpose of ending an auction outside of ebay - There was also a threat to suspend me for three days..
I have to assume Nils received the same.
At the time of this writing, I know very little of Düsseldorf, other than it’s a thriving, high-tech German city on the Rhine with high per capita income and a name that’s pretty fun to say, perhaps I’ll visit someday.
So, back to the boat..
Attention to detail is incredible. The hull is solid die-cast, the console, bench and anchor locker, real wood.
She’s powered by a classic Mercury 800, 80 hp outboard with a spinning propellor, and sits on a period correct “Tee Nee” trailer with detailed winch, rope, hook, padded bunks, roller keel and teardrop fenders.
The accessories are equally impressive including two fishing poles, two fuel tanks, a stern light, paddles, life jacket, rod holders and an anchor.
This is an exact scale, beautiful replica of a 1961 Boston Whaler Nauset, and Danbury Mint even includes a title!
Ours Has Never Been Out Of The Box!
Keep in mind these models are quite fragile and definitely not toys, so if you win, you’ll want to display her far away from the cat and the grandkids.
So a month had passed since we allegedly violated international ebay law, and we continued to communicate with our buddy Nils every few days via WhatsApp, tracking the package, complaining about government incompetence, shipping, covid, weather, etc. In fact, we may even do a little boating the next time he’s in the states.
The first shipping go-round had Nils carefully packing up our Whaler and sending her out via DHL.
He texted a photo of the box all taped up and ready to go via WhatsApp. I was impressed with his packing skills, which he referred to as German gründlichkeit - which apparently means carefulness and thoroughness.
Several days later though Nils received an email from DHL stating that our Whaler was being returned. They didn’t give him a reason or a refund.
The next attempt was through USPS, the International Postal Center in Frankfurt. Nils paid an additional $20 EU for expedited shipment, which seems to me would have been just as well spent on fairy dust or maybe some kind of magic postal beans.
After many days of stagnation, I read a few google reviews of the facility, none were positive, in fact it’s got a glowing two star rating..
Nils was patient throughout, though he made it clear - “this is his last sale outside the EU”..
Our little Whaler sat for another week before she finally began to move.
Once in the states, she passed through U.S Customs in NYC quickly and arrived here in Virginia a few days later..
Next crisis - “signature required” - word of advice folks, always ask the receiving party if signature required is a good idea prior to shipping! It nearly cost our little Whaler a return trip to Düsseldorf..

2020 Boston Whaler 170 Montauk - with 5.3 Hours!
Not 53, but five - point - three - hours!
We discussed this one in an earlier post a few days ago. If you missed it, scroll down to the April 11th write up.
She was garage kept, senior owned and dipped in the water a total of 3 times.
This is the newly re-designed 170 Montauk, introduced in 2018 with a completely new hull from the keel up.
She’s 5” wider, 3” longer, has a deeper V, and Montauk’s first integrated fuel tank, with 25 gallons in the belly.
This is the first of the newer 170 hulls that we’ve had at YCM. Everyone knows we love the predecessor, but I do have to admit, this boat is really nice, she feels much larger and more refined.
I’ve struggled with the internal fuel tank since first seeing the new hull at the boat show three years ago.
I have always loved the simplicity of the Montauk’s above board fuel system.
With two 6 gallon tanks, you can throw them in the back of the truck and fill them up at WaWa on the way home from work.
Even the popular aftermarket Moeller 23 gallon tank can easily be emptied at the end of the season or in the event of a contamination issue, but I must admit the new internal tank extends your range, cleans up the deck and allows for additional use of space - it’s pretty nice.
Our 170 has only the internal low profile hand rails, giving the boat a sleek, modern look with clean lines.
She also has the optional Teak Trim Package with teak steps on the gunnels and a beautiful teak overlay on the optional swim platform, paying homage to the classic Whalers of years past.
The newly designed swim platform has a clever side entry that looks great, seems larger and helps keep swimmers further from the motor.
Like her predecessor, there’s a large anchor locker in the bow, but in front of that, Whaler added a large, self draining fish box with a gas assist shock. Fisherman or not, it makes for better storage capacity, a common complaint with previous Montauk owners.
She’s powered by a Mercury Four Stroke, Fuel Injected 90 hp motor with stainless steel prop. These are super quiet, super efficient and powerful motors.
Another great option on ours is the SeaStar Hydraulic Steering System, which makes steering effortless. This is especially nice when approaching the dock at low speeds.
The galvanized trailer looks like new, has torsion axles and a folding tongue - which helps when squeezing her into smaller spaces!
With all the refinements of this new 170 Montauk, it’s easy to see why Whaler decided to drop the somewhat redundant 170 Dauntless from their 2021 lineup.
She’s priced @ 45k, comes with all the owner’s manuals, remaining transferable warranty, Coast Guard Package, etc.
With only 5.3 hours, she’s still got another 4.7 to go to complete the initial break-in period!
